Abstract

A camming element for a joint forming device for forming a joint between two members is intended to provide a more tolerant joint forming device. The camming element (10) comprises a body (15, 16, 18) which has an axis of rotation (40). The body defines a cavity (20) for receiving the head portion of an elongate fastening element. A slot (28) extends about the body to receive a neck portion of the fastening element as the camming element is rotated with the head portion received in the cavity. The slot is configured to allow the camming element to be rotated through at least 190 degrees to tighten a joint. Preferably camming element has a camming surface or surfaces adapted to cause axial movement of the fastening element at a rate less than 0.3 mm per 10 degrees of rotation throughout at least 75 per cent of the range of axial movement of the fastening element.
