Abstract
A clipboards comprises a base 1, to which is mounted a clip 2 and a light housing 3 which is provided on the same side as, but at the other end of, the base 1 to the clip 2. Housing 3 houses a light 4 therein. A switch 5 may be provided to operate the light. The power source for the light may be provided by standard batteries, rechargeable batteries or by a suitable power lead. A pair of hooks are secured to the other side of the base by rivets so that the hooks swivel relative to the base and clip on to a steering wheel. The clipboard may include an integral hinge formed in the base to make it foldable to facilitate storage and a pen holder may be provided on the clipboard.
Description
The present invention relates to a clipboard, particularly for use in cars.
It is often necessary to read and write notes on a clipboard in the absence of daylight whilst in a vehicle. For example doctors, delivery drivers, salespersons, and many others often need to do this. One problem is that vehicle interior lights are not very powerful making reading and writing difficult, and it is difficult as a driver to find a surface on which to place a clipboard.
The invention seeks to provide a novel clipboard to solve this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a clipboard cornprising: a) a substantially planar clipboard base, b) a paper clip on one side of and at one end of the base, c) a light on said one side of the base, and d) at least one hook on the other side of the base to engage on the steering wheel of a vehicle to support the clipboard on the steering wheel.
Preferably there are at least two hooks. Preferably the hooks swivel relative to the base.
Preferably the light is mounted at an end ofthe base remote from the paper clip.
Preferably the light emits a beam of light across the surface of the base.
The light may be housed in a housing, and the housing may include a power source.
The clipboard base is preferably rectangular. The base may be foldable whereby to reduce the size of the clipboard when not in use to facilitate storage. The base may be formed of plastics.
An integral hinge may be formed in the plastics base to make it foldable.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure I shows a perspective view of one side of a clipboard,
Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a power lead, and
Figure 3 shows a perspective view of part of the other side of the clipboard.
Referring to Figure 1 there is shown a rectangular clipboard base 1 which may be formed of
Plastics such as Nylon, Abs or Polypropylene. At one side of and at one end of the base 1 is a spring-loaded paper clip 2. Clip 2 may be of the type well known in the art.
A housing 3 is provided on the same side as, but at the other end of, the base 1 to the clip 2.
Housing 3 houses a light 4 therein to emit a beam of light across the board. A switch 5 may be provided to operate the light. Power for light 4 may be provided from an external source such as through a lead. A suitable lead 6 adapted to be inserted in a cigarette lighter socket is shown in Figure 2. Alternatively the housing could include batteries, or rechargeable batteries.
Referring now to Figure 3 there is shown a pair of hooks 7A,7B which are secured to the other side of the base 1 by rivets 8A,8B so that the hooks swivel relative to the base 1.
In use the clipboard may be supported on a vehicle steering wheel with the hooks engaging the top of the wheel. The hooks can swivel so as to conform to the curvature of any wheel. The light can be used to illuminate at night any paper held by the clip.
If desired a penholder could be provided on the clipboard (not shown).
Also the base may be foldable whereby to reduce the size of the clipboard when not in use to facilitate storage, such as in the glove compartment of a vehicle. An integral hinge may be formed in the plastics base to make it foldable (not shown).
The clipboard of the invention may be made of any suitable material and may be used in applications other than vehicles. It may be used also without the light as a standard clipboard.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
