Abstract

Display shelving is made from sheet material, eg corrugated cardboard or polypropylene, which is folded to form a columnar ring of vertical triangular columns 7 between which are rectangular channels into which shelves 4 are fitted via slots 5. Formers 3 at the top and bottom of the unit also fit into slots 5 to retain the folded shape. An advertising header panel (9, Fig 1) may be slotted into the top of the unit.

Description

DISPLAY AND MERCHANDISING UNIT The invention relates to a display merchandising unit for displaying and vending retail goods in stores, supermarkets, garages and other retail outlets.

Display and point of sale units of various shapes and sizes are well known. They are used for displaying merchandise in retail outlets where impulse buying is being encouraged. A problem often encountered is the weight of the product to be contained on the display. To overcome weight problems in many cases load bearing materials such as metal and wood have to be used which are costly.

It is an objective of the invention to overcome the above described disadvantages.

The present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1.

According to the present invention there is provided a series of triangular columns with channels between joined together in a sheet of flat material that can be recycled e.g. corrugated cardboard or polypropylene when cut to shape, creased and curved around a forming shape top and bottom and joined where edges of sheet meet, result in a ring of triangular columns and channels which when fitted with shelves gives a walk round merchandising area.

The design allows for the sheets to be cut and scored in such a way that the material will crease and bend back and forth.

The creasing pattern 1 permits the formation of triangular vertical channels down the length of the construction. Slots cut into the top and bottom of the unit 2 allow a forming shape 3 to fit and lock into the slots 2 to mould around the formers 3.

The two outer edges of the sheet or sheets when they meet around the former 3 are glued or stapled 6. Shelves 4 are locked into slots 2 cut into the channels 5. These shelves and the top formers make the whole structure rigid.

The load bearing qualities of the unit are obtained by the design of the creasing in the columns and channels as in 8 and when locked with former shape 3 give an outer ring of triangular shapes and channels that are able to withstand substantial downward pressure.

By changing the angles during manufacture on the triangular shaped columns 7 the shelf area can be made larger or smaller dependant on the size of product to be merchandised.

Slots around the top edge would allow for a complete shaped 'header' to fit into for an all round advertising message area 9.

Claims (5)

1. CLAIMS 1. A display unit for merchandising to contain a good number of products and to withstand substantial weight.
2. 2. A display unit as in claim 1 whereby a flat sheet or sheets are cut and creased to form triangular shaped columns with channels between when in the sheet.
3. 3. A display unit as in claims 1 to 2 whereby the cut and creased sheets are moulded and locked around lugged formers top and bottom creating a ring of fixed triangular columns with channels between.
4. 4. A display unit as in claims 1 to 3 whereby the angle on the triangular columns can be altered to make the channels and shelves larger or smaller dependent on the product size to be merchandised.
5. 5. A display unit as in claims 1 to 4 whereby the unit with the triangular shaped columns with channels between held in place by the formers top and bottom,shaped into a ring glued and with shelves slotted into the channels gives substantial load bearing properties for merchandise.
