Abstract

A medicament for alleviating symptoms of multiple sclerosis is constituted by a combination of linolenic acid and linoleic acid (including their salts, esters, and amides) in specified percentage ratios. Such combination may include optionally an additional ingredient selected from C 8-18 saturated fatty acids, oleic acid and derivatives of these acids, in an amount which does not prevent the combination having potentially MS symptoms alleviating activity, as determined by testing such combination in an animal model. Pharmaceutical formulations and nutritional combinations are also described, as is a method for testing a chemical substance in an animal model for potential use in alleviating symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
