Abstract

Bore-hole apparatus.-In apparatus for forming a hole in which a pile can be erected comprising a shell or casing with an internal screw thread and adapted to be driven be means of a too screwed into the shell the dimensions of shell and tool are such as tc leave a radial space between them except where the threads en. gage, and the lower surfaces of the engaging threads are preferably normal, or nearly so, to the length of the pile. The tool 11 is preferably hollow and constructed so that its upper end acts as a guide for a monkey 12 which strikes an anvil 12a preferably located at the centre of gravity of the whole mass. The tool is formed on its exterior surface with a screw thread 13 of any shape and preferably of small helical angle, its vertical thickness being considerably less than the pitch. A shell with a small exterior not grooved internally may also be used. The shell may be provided with a longitudinal key constituted by the longitudinal flanges 24, Fig. 1 of the semicylindrical sections of a built-up shell, the flanges being secured together by channel section clips 25. The tool may be used without a shell. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 228,485 and 229,234, [both in Class 68 (ii), Subaqueous buildings &c.].
