Abstract
The fishing float has the bait 12 balanced by an adjustable counterweight 5. In use the float 1 has located below it a balance arm 3 pivoted about axle 4, one end of the arm having a hole 7 for attachment of a line 8 bearing bait 12 the other end having an adjustable counter weight 5. The counterweight may be adjustable by means of screw thread 6. The counterweight ensures that the float does not submerge when a fish takes the bait. The balance arm 3 or the counterweight 5 may activate a sensor.
Description
Fishing Float with adjustable counterweight
This invention relates to a system of bite indication for float fishing using a rod and line.
Float fishing is a well knows. method of bite indication for angling whereby the float is moved or
pulled below the surface of the water being fished by the action of the fish taking the bait. Float fishing rçquires constant visual monitoring and the angler must be alert and remain vigil at all times,
In bad weather and poor visibility observation of the float can be difficult.
Attempts have been made to incorporate sensor means to detect when the bait is taken by the fish.
However most of these system have proved unreliable because wave movements have caused the sensor to operate erroneously or the transmisson signal has been anenuated by submersion of the float.
It is an object of this invention to provide a fishing float which overcomes the aforesaid disavantages.
It is also an object of this invention to establish the principle of a fishing float with an adjustable
counterweight.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a fishing float which does not normally submerge when the fish takes the bait,
A specific embodiment of the invention will be described by way of example with reference to the
accompanying drawing in which:
Referring to the drawing Fig. 1, the float device consists of a hollow plastic airtight enclosure 1.
Mounted beneath the enclosure 1 are two brackets 2 which support a balance arm 3. The balance arm
3 is arranged to rotate about an axle 4. A threaded counterweight 5 is fitted to one side of the balance arm 3 which has a matching thread 6, The other side of the balance arm 3 there is a hole 7 to connect
the line 8 and hook 9. The main line 10 is connected at an eye 11 on the top of the enclosure 1.
The method of fishing and operation of this float is as follows:-The bait 12 is attached to the hook 9.
With the enclosure 1 held in a suitable position so that the balance arm 3 can be seen, and the bait 12
is clear pf the ground, the counterweight 5 is adjusted by winding along the thread 6 until the balance
arm 3 is horizontal indicating that the bait 12 and the counterweight 5 are in equilibrium. By
adjusting the counterweight 5 back a few turns the balance arm 3 tips down to one side and the bait 12
is raised. The float is cast into the water in this position. When a fish takes the bait 12 it moves the
balance arm 3, and raises the counterweight 5.
The movement of the balance arm 3 or the counterweight 5 is be used to operate a sensor which is not
shown,
Claims (4)
- Claims 1. A fishing float where the weight of the bait is balanced by an adjustable counterweight.
- 2. A fishing float according to claim 1 in which the action of a fish taking the bait causes a counterweight to move.
- 3. A fishing float according to claim 1 or 2 which does not normally submerge when a fish takes the bait.
- 4. A fishing float according to any preceding claim in which a balance arm moves about an axle.
