Abstract
A power assisted jacking system comprises two or more built-in jacking units bolted on the chassis 1 each comprising of an electric motor 7 which turns the threaded lever 5 which in turn pushes the stand 3 against lever arms 11 downwards and against the ground with the sole plates thus raising the vehicle upwards. To lower the car, the motor reverses anticlockwise to idle mode. For motor vehicles with two jacking units, both wheels of the same side are raised by one jacking unit. But those with four jacking units has each wheel raised individually. In the event of a malfunction anywhere in the automatic system a manual operation option is provided on the opposite side of the motor. The jacking system may be used as a vehicle security device.
Description
POWER ASSISTED JACKING SYSTEM FAJS1 This invention relates to a built-in power assisted jacking system for motor vehicles.
Jacks that are used to hoist motor vehicles while changing a punctured wheel has always been manually operated hydraulic or mechanical devices.
While it should be appreciated that they play their part, there is room and need for improvements especially where convenience and comfort are concerned. They are especially user unfriendly to people of lesser physical ability particularly women and disabled people.
In this invention consideration was given to this particular group of people who may not have the energy and comfort to use the manually operated jacks and who in most cases seek help from other people to do this relatively easy task of changing a punctured wheel/tyre.
The object of this invention is to provide an easy and convenient way for drivers to hoist the vehicle while changing tyres with minimum effort and maximum of safety. Manually operated jaoks has been known to topple over while. in use causing Injuries. As for the effort, one has only to press a button to raise the side of the car he or she wants to change the tyre while still seated on the driver's seat.
In short, Power assisted jacking system (AJS1 is about saving time, energy, convenience, and safety.
When the driver finishes to change the tyre he goes backs to the drivers seat and lowers the car by pressing the 'down' button and drive off. AJS eases tho most hated part of changing a tyre which is the process of hoisting the car up to do so; and subsequently lowering it, especially in the extremes of weather.
The AJS can be manufactured as components to be fitted to old cars but would be best to fit the system in the factory during assembly stage to allow for necessary recesses.
According to the present invention there is provided two mechanical threaded lever jacks each comprising of a steel frame braced struts, a steel coarse threaded lever, mounting plates, steel stand complete with a non-slip rubber padded sole plate for ground contact, 12 volts electric motor complete with reverse effect, means for mounting and securing the motor to the jack frame and onto the car chassis in which case a waterproof heavy duty plastic casing can be used.
Means is provided for connecting the motor to the threaded lever in which case a coupling roller bearing with a ratchet effect is suitable. Each jacking unit is secured to the car chassis at a determined equilibrium position between tho front and the rear wheels of each side by means of mounting plates and bolts see figure 06 below Wiring is provided to power the motors from the battery and extended accordingly to an appropriate position on the dashboard to a control switch.
There is a switch button for each jacking unit clearly marked 'left' for the side of the car and 'right' for the right side of the car and with each having a 'down' and 'up' buttons plso clearly marked accordingly.
The size of the motor and other weight bearing parts of the system may vary accordingly in capacity, size and shape to accommodate various sizes of vehicles and varying models and types. The number of the jacking units may also vary from two for smaller cars to four units for larger and longer vehicles such that individual wheel has a jacking unit on for itself. The basic principles however remain unchanged.
Sensor switches are provided for the following purposes:- On the bottom of the sole plate to warn the driver when the
car is off the ground. it also cuts off the motor power and action after a determined raise.
On the threaded lever to out off the motor power when the
jacking unit is fully wound up to idle mode.
On the electric motor to aot as a child lock to prevent the
AJS from responding when the car is in motion or when
hand brakes are not engaged. r On the engine starter motor to prevent the engine to turn
when the AJS is on use mode.
A small beeping alarm can b. fitted in an audible position in
the dashboard area to warn the driver if any one the above
sensors has been activated.
Basically, the jacking units works as a result of turning the threaded lever by the electric motor against the female threads on the frame stand and the counter action of the lever arms pivoted at the centre of the stand. t see figure 01 belowl.
Specific details of a typical construction of the invention will now be described here below by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 01 shows in side elevation view, a single jacking unit of power assisted jacking system mounted to the car chassis; and Figure Olb shows a simple example of a control switching unit.
Figures 02 and 03 shows a section through typical construction of the jacking unit half-way wound up and idle mode respectively.
Figure 04 shows details through the isometric view of a single jacking unit.
Figure 05 shows the position the jacking unit on is mounted on a typical car.
Figure 06 shows the wiring layout from the battery to the jacking units and to the control unit on the dashboard.
As shown in figure 01 the steel framed braced jack is bolted to car chassis I by mounting plate 2. A 12 volts electric motor 7 is encased in waterproof heavy duty plastic casing 6 which is bolted to the mounting plate 2 and then joined to the threaded lever 6 via a coupling b.aring.
Means is provided to join the other end of the threaded lever to the stand 3 such that it moves back and forth along the lever as it turns. A non-slip rubber padded sole plate 9 is provided for ground contact. Greasing nozzles are provided to lubricate major turning parts.
Electric connection 10 provide wiring to the motor from the battery and extending to the control unit on the dashboard as shown on figure 06 and OS.
