Abstract

Azo dyes of Formula (1) have utility as dyes for inkjet printing, where Formula (1) comprises any suitable form of the compound: such as salt; stereoisomer, zwitterion, polymorph, complex, isotopic form, combinations thereof in the same species and mixtures thereof; where: n represents from 1 to 5 inclusive; R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>1B</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>4B</SP> each independently comprises at least one of the following substituents, optionally substituted: H, C 1-8 alkyl; C 1-8 alkoxy; -NHCOH, C 1-8 alkylcarbonylamino; and -NHCONR<SP>5</SP>R<SP>6</SP> where R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> each independently comprises at least one of the following substituents: H, C 1-8 alkyl and aryl; and R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> each independently comprises at least one of the following substituents, optionally substituted: H: C 1-8 alkoxy; -NHC 1-8 alkyleneOH, -SC 1-8 alkyleneSO 3 H; -NHC 1-8 alkyleneN(C 1-8 alkyl 2 ; (a) where X comprises one of the following: - NHC 1-8 alkylene; -NHphenylSO 2 NHC 1-8 alkylene; and a direct link, (b) where X comprises one of the following: -NHC 1-8 alkylene; -NHphenylSO 2 NHC 1-8 alkylene, and a direct link; a moiety of Formula (2) where m and p is each independently from 0 to 5 inclusive, provided that (m + p) is from 1 to 5 inclusive; and R<SP>1A</SP>, R<SP>2A</SP>, R<SP>4A</SP> and R<SP>4C</SP> each independently comprises at least one of those optionally substituted substituents as defined herein for R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>4B</SP> respectively; and any other suitable labile or non-labile substituent not mentioned above; where the optional substituents herein comprise: C<SP>1-4</SP>alkyl (optionally substituted with at least one halo), C 1-4 alkoxy (optionally substituted with at least one halo), carboxy, sulpho, hydroxy, amino, mercapto, cyano, nitro and halo.
