Abstract

A carrier for skis or snowboards comprises two pouches 10 for fitting over the opposite ends of a pair of skis or a snowboard, each pouch having eyelets 11 at its open end through which a drawstring 12 is threaded, and each end of a variable length strap 14, adjustable via a buckle 18, is attached to each of the respective drawstrings such that in use tension in the strap due to the weight of the article being carried acts on the drawstrings to close said pouches about the ends of an article inserted therein. When not in use the strap and one of the pouches may be easily stored in the other pouch. The carrier provides a comfortable and preferably hands free means of transporting skis etc.

Description

2331695 Title: SE1 SLING.
Page 1 SKI SLING FOR CARRYING, SIOS AND SNO3YBOARDS FIELD OF THIS INVENTI
TWS PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A MEANS FOR CARRYING SKIS AND SNOWBOURDS WITH LESS PHYSICAL FATIGUE.
BACKGROUND TO TIES INVENTION.
Prior art exists which describes various means of transporting skis and ski related accessories and equipment.
Patent Number 5,400937 dated March 28 1995 refers, as also Patent Number WO 87/07170. Other examples exist in USA and elsewhere.
Skiing is self propulsion on snow by means of elongated runners for the feet which are slightly bent upwards at the leading. edge. Skis vary in length and width depending no the terrain over which skiing takes place. Skis very in weight, even though modem practice makes use of Fiberglas for construction.
In some cases, skiers have to walk long distances to reach the ski slops or ski lifts and the transport of the skis and poles with other relative gear becomes arduous and fatiguing.
The principal aspect of this invention is to provide a comfortable means of manually transporting skis and snowboards etc. which preferably leaves the hands free.
The embodiment comprises a plurality of pouches, preferably one for each distal end of the skis, each of which is provided with a plurality of eyelet's which can accept draw strings.
SKI SLING FOR CARRYING SKIS AND SNOWBOARDS Page 2 Between each pouch and attached to the draw strings, is a length- adjustable strap. The said pouches are constructed of, soft durable fabric and the strap of appropriate webbing with suitable padding at the mid-position.
A selection of colours to match the clothes of the skiers would be provided for the pouches A significant feature of the pouches is that one can be used to contain the other, along with the strap and thus form a conveniently transportable package which fits easily into a coat pocket.
Adjustment of the length for the strap is provided by an appropriate buckle which is comically available.
A specific embodiment of this invention will now be more particularly described by way of non-limiting example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which FIGURE 1 - is an enlarged view of one of the pouches constructed in compliance with the embodiment of this invention FIGURE 2 - illustrates a pair of skis held for transportation in the pouches and the carrying strap in compliance with the embodiment of this invention.
FIGURE 3 - shows the normal carrying position of the skis when held by the pouches and the strap.
FIGURE 4 - illustrates how one pouch becomes a carrying bag for the other pouch and strap ready for storage in pocket.
SKI -STANG FOR CARRYING SKIS ANT) SNOWBOARDS Page 3 According to figure 1, there is shown an open bag or pouch 10 which has a plurality of eyelet's I I fixedly attached thereto. The eyelet's I I are inserted near the open end of the said pouch and accept draw strings 12, which can, as the name implies, draw the open end of the pouch together or draw it tight about any object. It can be seen in figure 1, that the draw strings 12 pass down through one eyelet I I a near the entrance to the pouch 10. It must be accepted that tension the draw strings 12 will tend to close the neck 13 of the pouch 10 -the greater the tension, the greater the grip. Since the shoulder strap 14 ( figure 2) will be attached to the draw strings 12, the weight of the skis will impart tension on the draw strings 12 and thereby tighten the pouch about the skis.
Reference is now made to Figure 2 which illustrates a pair of skis 15, the distal ends of which are enclosed within the pouches 10. It will beappreciated that the skis 15 are placed so that the under side of both skis are in contact with each other, with both the leading edgesat one end and both the tails of the skis at the other. The ski boot clamps ( bindings) 16 which are obviously on the upper side of the ski, will be facing in opposite directions.
The draw strings 12 are attached to the sling or strap 14 by an appropriate clip. The sling or strap 14 is length adjustable through a commercially available buckle 18. The carrying position would expect the skis to have the narrow axis vertical or at right angles to the ground, as shown in Figure 3. It can thus be seen that the SKI SLING as described herein can be fitted to skis for any length and weight. The same observations apply to snoboards.
Figure 3 illustrates a normal carrying mode for the sling described herein should need no additional explanation Figure 4 shows one pouch containing the other pouch and strap within itself ready for storage in pocket.
A CARRY STING FOR SEAS AND SNOWBOARDS 4 CLA11MS 1.This invention is a ski and snow boarding carrying device. It comprises of a strap whos length is variable. This strap is attached to two drawstrings which are threaded through an arrangement of eyelet's secured into the open end of the two pouches, in a manner so that they can close the diameter of the open end of the pouch when in use. When not in use, it can be easily stored with in one of the pouches.
2. This carrying device as claimed in 1, wherein the drawstrings become self tightening when carrying skis or snowboard.
3. A ski carrying device as claimed in 1, wherein one pouch can be used to store within itself the strap and the second pouch.
4. A ski carrying device as claimed in 1, wherein the arrangements of eyelet's is such that the drawstring is threaded through these which pulls the pouch closed against the skis or board when in use.
5. A ski carrying device as claimed in 1, wherein the drawstrings are threaded in a manner designed to automaticafly reduce the diameter of the open end of each pouch, when in use.
6. A ski carrying device in which substantially described herein with ref 1-4 of the accompanying drawings.
