Abstract

A mobile telephone handsfree adaptor comprising an audio cassette shaped adaptor to convert the audio signal out from the handset of a mobile telephone into a magnetic signal which can then be read by cassette deck heads and converted back into an audio signal to be played through the cassette deck's own speaker system. Volume, tone and balance can be adjusted at the cassette deck controls to suit. The Microphone provides the audio signal into the mobile telephone. The adaptor attaches to the Manufacturer-specific accessories socket 01 through the insertion if its 2.5mm jack plug 02. From this plug run twin cables 03. One cable provides the connection between the Microphone 06 and the input channel of the jack plug 02. The second cable, though a single channel itself, provides the connection between the output channel of the jack plug 02 and the left and right channels of the magnetic signal interface 08, housed in the cassette body 07, thereby converting the audio signat into a magnetic one to be read by cassette deck tape heads. The earth wires (05) of the Microphone (06) and the magnetic sf (08) share the earthing connection of the jack plug (02). The assembly can be installed in, or removed from, its respective cassette deck quickly and easily.

Description

TEEJ TALK - MOBILE PHONE HANDSFREE ADAPTOR This invention relates to an adaptor allowing handsfree use of mobile phones via cassette decks (including in-car).
Mobile phones are widely used and consist of a handset, comprising the communications circuitry together with integral ear speaker and microphone. To use the phone it is generally held at the side of the head. This is very dangerous ff driving, as the driver is not in full cony of the vehicle. It is further believed in some camps that exposure to the radiation emanating from the handset is detrimental to the health of the user. Handsfree kits exist which are either a clip-on microphone with separate earpiece, or larger space-inefftcient speaker systems installed in cars, working off an independent power source, offed weeding to be professionally fitted.
Full handsfree kits are relatively expensive, often require conversion work to be carried out during installation in cars, and once fitted, cannot be moved between vehicles. Some systems plug into the cigar Ughter as a separate speaker and charger, but these are cumbersome and obstruct de car's controls. The clip-on microphone and earpiece provides low volume audio which is all too ineffective against ambient noise. Safety regulations demand that some sort of handsfree kit be used if phone is to be used in a moving vehicle.
According to the present invention there is provided an audio cassette shaped adaptor to convert the audio signal out from the phone's handset into a magnetic signal which can then be read by cassette deck heads and converted back to an audio signal to be played through the cassette deck's own speaker system. Volume, tone and balance can be adjusted at the cassette deck controls to suit. The microphone (audio signal fn) can be mounted anywhere in the car, or clipped onto clothing. The device may be used in a car audio system, or in any other cassette deck to provide a handsfree speakerphone which can be removed or installed in seconds. The handset remains away from the user's head, and If in a car, away from the driving controls. The device enables handsfree use in many areas, such as the office, where hands may be used. for writing, typing, etc.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 shows a diagrammatic representation of the device.
Fig. 2 shows a sectional diagram of the cassette adaptor.
Referring to the drawings, the adaptor attaches to the Manufacturerparticular accessories socket (01) [supplied with many phones], to which is inserted the 2.5mm jack plug (02). From the jack plug run twin cables (03), each cable containing a strand of insulated copper wire (04) surrounded by a further strand of copper wire (05). One cable provides the connection with the microphone (06) which may be mounted or clipon. The second cable connects with the cassette adaptor leading to the magnetic signal interface (08).
In order for the system to operate, the cassette adaptor is inserted into the tape deck (09) and the jack plug (02) connected to the accessories socket (01) and thus into the handset (00). The tape deck plays what it perceives to be magnetic tape, the audio signal out of the phone is played over the speakers of the audio system (10), the microphone (06) providing the audio signal input.
The power supply of the tape deck provides the power for the increase of volume, and the speakers used if in-car are integral to the car's chattels. No installation is required, and the system can be instantly dismantled by ejecting the 'cassette'.
