Abstract
A paint brush 1 has an adjustable length. A head portion 2 having a brush 5 may be attached to either or both of an intermediate handle portion 3 and a rear handle portion 4 to form differing lengths of handle. In another embodiment, the handle portions 3,4 may themselves have a brush on one end.
Description
Paint Brush
The invention relates to a paint brush.
Known paint brushes are of fixed length. It is therefore necessary for a school art room to maintain stocks of different length brushes for different purposes. For example, when painting at an easel it is generally desirable to use a long handled brush, whereas when painting at a desk it is preferred to use a short handled brush.
Viewed from one aspect, therefore, the invention provides a paint brush of adjustable length. This enables a user to adjust the length of the paint brush to suit the task in hand.
The paint brush may for example be telescopically adjustable. Preferably, the paint brush comprises a removable handle portion. The handle portion may then be left in place to provide a relatively long paint brush or removed to provide a shorter paint brush. A removable handle portion may have the additional advantage that it may be used with more than one paint brush head portion, thereby giving the user a choice of paint brush head portions (e.g. a paint brush head with a flat brush or one with a round brush) or enabling replacement of a worn out paint brush head portion.
Viewed from another aspect, therefore, the invention provides a paint brush comprising a removable handle portion.
The invention also provides a kit comprising a plurality of paint brush head portions and a handle portion, the handle portion being removably attachable to each of said paint brush head portions.
The paint brush may have a paint brush head portion, a rear removable handle portion, and an intermediate removable handle portion. Use of only the head and the intermediate portions can give a paint brush shorter than when the head, intermediate and rear portions are used. Preferably, the rear portion can be attached directly to the head portion, the intermediate portion being omitted. The assembled paint brush can then have a rear end with a finished appearance. More than one intermediate removable handle portion may be provided.
A paint brush having one or more removable handle portions may be provided with more than one brush. Thus a removable handle portion may be provided at an end thereof with a brush. For example, a paint brush may have a head portion provided with a first brush, and a removable handle portion provided with a second brush.
For neatness, the second brush may be received in a hollow rear end of the head portion when the head and handle portions are assembled together. If the paint brush has both a rear removable handle portion and one or more intermediate handle portions then one or more of such handle portions may be provided with a brush.
Some preferred embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a first embodiment of paint brush; and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of paint brush.
Figure 1 shows a paint brush 1 comprising a paint brush head portion 2 and a pair of handle portions consisting of an intermediate handle portion 3 and a rear handle portion 4. The head portion 2 is formed at its front end with a grip for a round brush 5. It is provided with a star shaped collar 6 which serves both to prevent the paint brush from rolling when put down and to prevent the brush 5 from contacting the surface on which the paint brush is placed. At its rear end the head portion 2 is formed with a socket (not shown) for removably receiving a plug 7 at the front end of the intermediate handle portion. Similarly, the intermediate handle portion 3 is formed at its rear end with a socket for removably receiving a plug 8 provided at the front of the rear handle portion 4.
The paint brush of Figure 1 may be used with all three portions connected together to form a relatively long brush handle, with the rear handle portion 4 removed to form a paint brush with a medium length handle, or with both the rear handle portion 4 and the intermediate handle portion 3 removed to form a short paint brush.
The paint brush of Figure 1 may be modified such that the plug 8 of the rear handle portion 4 fits removably in the socket at the rear of the head portion 2, so that a brush of medium length may be formed by omitting the intermediate handle portion 3, rather than by omitting the rear handle portion 4. Another possible modification would be to replace the plug 7 and/or the plug 8 with a brush grip, with a brush being held by the grip and being removably insert able in a hollow rear end of the respective forwardly adjacent brush portion. The paint brush as a whole can then incorporate two or three brushes (or even more if more than one intermediate handle portion is provided).
It will also be appreciated that the paint brush of
Figure 1 could be supplied as part of a kit including more than one head portion 2, for example to give different brush types (e.g. a round brush as shown in
Figure 1 and a flat brush as shown in Figure 2) or to permit replacement of a worn head portion.
The embodiment shown in Figure 2 is the same as that of Figure 1 except that the head portion has a grip for a flat brush 5. The Figure 2 paint brush may be modified similarly to the Figure 1 paint brush, as described above.
