Abstract

An insect catcher uses a vacuum created within the containment cup 1 to suck an insect into the cup 1 to be drawn onto the filter 4 and entrapped within the cup by entrapment vanes 2. The vacuum is created by a reversible fan unit 3 connected to the cup via a telescopic vacuum section 5. Once trapped, the insect may be blown out by reversing the fan unit 3.

Description

'ARACHNAVAC' - HUMANE INSECT CATCHER Technical Field This invention relates to a humane insect catcher.
Background This invention is designed as a safe, humane method of removing unwanted spiders and other insects from any environment and releasing them at a later stage, to a more suitable habitat gardens etc.
It is primarily for those people with insect phobias so they can, at 'arms length' quickly and effectively remove unwanted insects from their homes etc.
Essentials According to the present invention there is provided an insect catcher comprising of a soft, containment cup, entrapping vanes, filter, telescopic vacuum section and a reversible fan unit.
Example A specific embodiment of the invention wiil now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1. Shows in perspective, the Humane Insect Catcher.
Referring to the drawing the catcher comprises of a transparent, soft flexible containment cup 1 which is friction fit or simiiar means to the vacuum section 5 (not shown3.
The containment cup is flexible so as to fit into tight comers etc.
Within the containment cup 1, a system of rotating entrapment vanes 2 is installed so as to entrap the insect within the cup.
When the device is placed over the insect, the reversible fan unit 3 is switched on and a vacuum is created within the cup 1, drawing the insect through the entrapment vanes 2 where the insect is sucked onto the filter 4.
A range of 'Reach' is provided by the telescopic vacuum section 5 so as to facilitate ease of packaging with good reach so as to extend to the corners of remote areas.
Once the insect is trapped within the containment cup 1, the reversible fan unit 3 can be switched off.
The insect can then be deposited in a suitable environment by reversing the airflow through the reversible fan unit 3 and forcing the insect back out of the containment cup 1.

Claims (6)

  1. A A humane insect catcher comprising of a soft, containment cup, which is flexible enough so as to cover an insect in tight comers.
  2. 2. A humane insect catcher as claimed in claim 1 wherein the containment cup is fitted with entrapment vanes so as to entrap the insect within the containment cup.
  3. 3. A humane insect catcher as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the containment cup is fitted with a filter so as to immobilise the insect under vacuum.
  4. 4. An humane insect catcher as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 or claim 3 wherein the catcher is fitted with a reversible fan unit to create a vacuum in order to suck the insect into the containment cup and, when in reverse mode, blow the insect out of the containment cup into a suitable environment.
  5. 5. A humane insect catcher as claimed in any preceding claims wherein the reversible fan unit is connected to the containment cup by a telescopic vacuum section so as to facilitate ease of packaging and extension of range to reach remote corners.
  6. 6. A humane insect catcher substantially as described herein with reference to figure 1 of the accompanying drawing.
