Abstract
A plastic 'Conker' toy is manufactured from plastic and has a body (1) which contains four cavities (13). Within each cavity is a clip (5). A segment (2) is attached to each of the clips (5) by means of a holding bar (6) which is part of each segment (2). When pressure is applied to the top of any of the segments (2) the holding bar (6) moves down within the clip (5) until the shoulder (9) of the segment (2) pivots on a ridge <8) within the cavity (13). When enough pressure is applied to a segment (2) the segment becomes dislodged from the cavity (13), clip (5) and the body (1) of the toy. A centre ring (4) is attached to a centre spindle (3) in the body of the toy to keep each segment (2) secure within each cavity (13). A piece of string (11) is threaded through the centre (7) of the body (1) and is secured by two knots (12), see Figure 4.
Description
'Plastic Conker Toy'
This invention relates to a plastic 'Conker' toy.
The game of 'Conkers' has traditionally been played using the fruit of the Horse
Chestnut tree. Two players would each thread the nut from a Horse Chestnut tree ('Conker') onto a length of string. Both players would each take turns in striking their opponents 'Conker' until one ofthe 'Conkers' was broken from it's string.
The player with their 'Conker' left intact at the end of the game was declared the winner.
'Conkers' are traditionally only available in the United Kingdom between
September and November when the fruit of the Horse Chestnut tree is in season.
The plastic 'Conker' toy is modelled on the traditional 'Conker'. It is roughly the same size as the nut of a Horse Chestnut tree (3 cm x 3 cm) and is entirely manufactured from plastic. The plastic 'Conker' toy contains four segments which are secured to the body ofthe toy by means of a clip. When a segment is struck from above the segment is forced out of it's cavity within the body of the toy.
When the plastic 'Conker' toy is struck by another plastic 'Conker' toy, segments from within each plastic 'Conker' toy are dislodged. The object of the game is to dislodge the segments from your opponents plastic 'Conker' toy before heXshe removes the segments from your plastic 'Conker' toy.
The segments can be re-attached to the body ofthe plastic 'Conker' toy so that a new game an be played.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows the side view ofthe plastic 'Conker' toy with the segments removed to reveal the clip on the inside of the body.
Figure 2 illustrates the plastic 'Conker' toy with the segments attached to the body.
Figure 3 shows the plastic 'Conker' toy from above (front view) with the segments removed from the body, revealing the clips on the body.
Figure 4 shows how a game using the plastic 'Conker' toy can be played.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 & 3, the plastic 'Conker' toy comprises of a body (1) and four segments (2) which are attached to cavities (13) within the body of the toy by means of a clip (5).
The segments are held in place within the cavity (13) in each clip (5) by means of a holding bar (6) which is part of each segment (2).
When pressure is applied to the top of a segment (2) the top shoulder (9) of the segment is pushed down onto a ridge portion of the body (8). This acts as a pivot to remove the holding bar (6) from the clip (5) within the cavity (13) in the body (1).
In order to keep each segment (2) in place in the cavity (13) (in addition to the clip (5)) a centre ring (4) is secured to the centre spindle (3) of the body (1).
Referring to the drawing in figure 3 & 4, a piece of string (11) is placed through a hole in the centre of the body (7). The string has a knot (12) at each end to keep the plastic 'Conker' toy from being removed from the string.
The plastic 'Conker' toy is used by holding the toy by it's string (11) and attempting to hit another plastic 'Conker' toy to remove all of an opponents segments (2).
The segments (2) can be re-attached to the body (1) by clipping the holding bar (6) back into the clip (5) which is part ofthe body (1).
Claims (6)
- 'Plastic Conker Toy' 1 A plastic 'Conker' toy comprising of a moulded plastic body and four plastic segments which clip into four cavities in the body of the toy. The toy has been designed so that when pressure is applied to the top portion of any of the segments they will tilt upward and come out of each cavity away from the body of the toy.
- 2 A plastic 'Conker' toy as claimed in Claim 1 wherein clips are provided within each cavity in the body of the toy to secure each of the four segments by means of a holding bar which is part of each segment.
- 3 A plastic 'Conker' toy as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein when pressure is applied to a segment from above the shoulder of the segment pivots on a ridge inside the cavity within the body of the toy. This movement helps in the removal of the segment from the cavity.
- 4 A plastic 'Conker' toy as claimed in Claim l, Claim 2 and Claim 3 wherein the segments can be re-attached into the clips located in each cavity within the body of the toy.
- 5 A plastic 'Conker' toy as claimed in Claim 5, where a piece of string is passed through the centre of the body of the toy to attach the toy to the string.
- 6 A plastic 'Conker' toy substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-4 ofthe accompanying drawings.
