Abstract

A joining system for modular office screens comprises a bottom wedge (2, Fig 1) that locates and secures the bottom of a screen 1 to its neighbour 3, and an upper fixing or locking cap 5 which prevents the top of the screens 1,3 from rotating about the lower fixing points.

Description

Joining system for modular office screens This invention relates to a joining system for modular office screen systems.
Office screens are a well known office furnishing, comprising fabricated panels of various materials that are used to divide office spaces. The panels may be free standing or connected together to form rigid compartments to enclose or partially enclose office equipment, desks etc. and to form reception desks and work stations with the use of horizontal work surfaces fixed to the panels, or free standing desks.
However, office screens that are capable of supporting work tops and accessories must be mechanically fixed to each other to be rigid and safe.
These rigid fixings require specialist installation technicians to fit the screens on site.
According to the present invention there is provided top and bottom fixings, and, incorporated in the screens, a means of attaching them to the screens, which can then draw two screens, or a screen and a corner post, together.
The specific embodiment of the invention is described with reference to the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 Shows in elevation the bottom wedge being connected to a screen, Fig. 2 illustrates in elevation, the location of a second screen, Fig. 3 demonstrates in elevation the action of locating the top locking fixing.
Fig. 4 A demonstration of a similar fixing method to a corner post.
Figure 1.
The fixing mechanism comprises a "bottom wedge" (2) which is fitted close to the base and end of the screen (1), Figure 2.
The next screen in the assembly (3) is constructed with a means to locate onto the bottom wedge" (4) and is lowered onto the "bottom wedge" (2). The bottom wedge is of a form that eases this process, and provides lateral and linear stability of the screens (1) and (3).
Figure 3.
The joining process is completed by the placing of a "locking cap" (5) which secures the top edges of the screens (1 & 3) to prevent radial movement about the "bottom wedge" (2). The "locking cap" (5) is fitted with a method for being secured in position.
Figure 4.
In a similar procedure to Fig. 2, a "corner post" (6) is positioned onto the "bottom wedge" , and locked into position with a "locking cap" (5) as in Fig. 3.
To disconnect the screens, the reverse of the above procedure would be used.
