Abstract

A safety seat assembly (7) for a vehicle intended for emergency and hazardous operations such as fire fighting and rescue operations, the assembly (7) being of single or multiple seat form with a seat structure (11) for each seated operator (9) formed from fabricated sheet metal as a hollow unit having a base mounting (12) for vehicle floor mounting and defining or provided with an upper seal rest part (17), and a backrest part (7a) formed integrally with the base mounting (12) to have spaced hollow side column parts (8) conjoined by a back plate (14) and extending upwardly from the rear of the base mounting (12) and defining a large medial rear recess (6) which is provided with a mounting and support means (15) for a pressurised fluid container (3) of a typical emergency back pack carried or to be carried by an operator (9); the construction and arrangement of the backrest part (7a) and recess (6) thereof being such that an operator back support (1) of the emergency back pack is in general alignment with forward edge portions (or cushioning (8d) thereon) of the side column parts (8) with the container (3) mounted in the support means (15) within the recess (6); there being releasable retaining means (20, 22, 23) actuable by an operator (9) for retaining the emergency back pack container (3) and back support (1) therefor in position, and the forward edge portions of the side column parts (8) or cushioning (8d) thereon being provided with means (8a, 8b) for temporary detachable location and support of parts (2a, 2b) of harness straps (2) for the emergency back in a manner enabling ready access and fitment of the harness (2) to an operator (9) whilst seated on the safety seat assembly (7) and without entanglement with or restriction by a fitted seat safety harness (10) for the seated operator (9).
