Abstract

A dog head collar comprises a neck band 10 and a nose band 9. The nose band has a loop 7 for tightening the nose band around a dog's nose by means of force applied to a lead attachment 8.

Description

DOG HEADCOLLAR This invention relates to a dog headcollar.
Headcollars are a known means of harnessing and securing a dog for walking, exercising and working. The dog is lead by the head rather than the neck which eliminates pulling and enables even strong, large breed, badly behaved or excitable dogs to be walked to heel.
The invention shown in our diagrams (set of three) provides a well-fitted secure headcollar which is held in place by a cross-section of straps to ensure correct fitting even when the lead is attached and walking is commenced. The invention eliminates riding up and rubbing which can precipitate the headcollar being removed by the dog which is a major fault with present headcollars.
This is due to: 1 Straps 1 and 2 (sheets 2 and 3) which hold the headcollar in place under the chin.
2 Two straps numbered 3 and 4 (sheets 1,2 and 3) on either side of the headcollar secure same from the neck via rings 5 (sheets 1,2 and 3) to, in the case of strap 3 the nose band numbered 9 < sheets 1,2 and 3) and strap 4 to rings 6 (sheets 1,2 and 3).
3 A continuous loop of material numbered 7 (sheets 1,2 and 3) attached to the front end of 1 (sheet 2 and 3) and threaded through rings 6 and 8 (sheets 1,2 and 3) is the key to the invention. Although secured to one end of strap l, which in turn by the other end to strap 2 (sheets 2 and 3), it is able to be attached via ring 8 (sheets 1,2 and 3) to a lead and/or neck collar and be pulled which causes the rings 6 (sheets 1,2 and 3) to come closer against the dog whilst staying in place and not riding up.
4 The nose band numbered 9 (sheets 2 and 3) is attached to rings 6 (sheets 1,2 and 3) and when the lead is moved, the pressure on the nose band ensures the dog co-operates with the handler in a controlled manner.
5 A neck collar numbered 10 with a buckle or catch fastening numbered 11 (sheets 1, 2 and 3) is attached to rings 5 (sheets 1,2 and 3) which secures the headcollar and lies behind the dog's ears.

Claims (7)

CLAIMS DOG HEADCOLLAR The headcollar is different to other headcollars because it achieves the purpose for which it is intended.
1 The headcollar enables owners to walk and control their dogs safely and securely with the headcollar in a permanent fixed position due to the unique positioning of straps 1,2,3 and 4 (sheets 2 and 3) which act as a fixed control panel.
2 Having achieved claim number 1, the key to the invention is the separate continuous strapping numbered 7 (sheets 1,2 and 3) which draws the two sides together through rings numbered 6 (sheets 1,2 and 3) and is then attached to the handler's lead and/or neck collar by ring numbered 8 (sheets 1,2 and 3). By not being attached to the main parts of the fixed panel, when pressure is put on the lead, loop numbered 7 (sheets 1,2 and 3) is the only part to move forward, downwards, upwards or sideways as required.
3 Claims 1 and 2 thus enable the headcollar to stay fixed and not ride up under or into the eye causing distress and discomfort for the dog. The added major problem of rubbing and head throwing which often leads to the headcollar coming off the dog will al';o be eliminated as the headcollar is much more comfortably and securely fitted, avoiding potential dangers for the dog and handler.
4 The nose band numbered 9 (sheets 2 and 3) is attached to rings 6 (sheets 1,2 and 3) and when the lead is moved, the pressure on the nose band ensures the dog co-operates with the handler in a controlled manner. The neck collar numbered 10 secures the headcollar and lies behind the dog's ears.
5 The dog will be much more controllable and will be safer and easier to train and walk and will be less excitable. Ease of control is vital for people with strong, large or stubborn breeds. Less able bodied people will find the headcollar invaluable.
6 The headcollar can be left on whilst the dog is inactive. This has a calming effect on the dog. The dog can pant, eat and drink whilst the headcollar is in place.
7 Ring numbered 8 (sheets 1,2 and 3) enables, if required, a check collar to also be attached for added security.
