Description
PLAYING CARDS
TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates tb playing cards. In the context of this specibattion it shall be understood that the term "playing cards" is intended to embrace cards which can be used for playing a game or for amusement or educational purposes.
BACKGROUND
Many different forms of playing cards are already known.
The present invention seeks to provide a set of playing cards which is patently different from any known playing cards.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention proposes sets of two-sided playing cards which on one side carry pictures or illustrations and possibly text. The text,if any, would ask a question and/or give a clue or clues to the identity of the said item.
For brevity the term'picture' used below includes'illustration'.
The reverse side of each card repeats at least the picture element of the thing to be identified and also gives the answer by providing additi " pictures and/or text.
Thus the items to be identified are represented by pictures.
Text may be added to the pictures if desired where the answer sought is not obvious or additional clues thought necessary.
The answer sides repeat at least the pictures appearing on the first side.
The items to be identified may,for example, include persons past or present, kinds of trees, shrubs, plants, flowers grasses and fruits, and animals including insects, birds, reptiles and fish. In fact anything can be included from the animal, vegetable or mineral world that can be portrayed in picture form. Further examples are objects such as buildings, statues, pictures i.e works of art, and types of architecture. It could be the whole of something or a part.
Abstract items can also be included where they can be represented pictorially.
The cards may be coded(e.g. by varying number of stars or other symbols) to indicate the degree of difficulty.
The cards can be used to play a game. In order to make the game easier, e.g. for young children, the more difficult cards can be identified and excluded from play. When cards become familiar the easier ones can be withdrawn and the more difficult ones introduced. This keeps the game refreshing and challenging.
The game may be played purely for amusement or it may have an educational purpose.
By way of example game, each player is dealt a hand of cards selected at random from the pack. .After memorising the item to be identified a player lays one card answer side down.
The next player then tries to identify the item portrayed.
If he/she is correct that player takes the card, but if not the next player in turn tries. This carries on around the players in turn until someone correctly identifies the item and is thus allowed to take the card.
If,after all players have tried, nobody has correctly identified the item, the player who put it down turns it over to reveal the answer and that player can be allowed to retain the card. The players all display their cards in turn until all cards have been used. The winner is the player who ends up with most cards. Other rules could,of course, apply.
Another possible use of the cards is as a teaching aid.
A set of large cards could be used in a classroom, with the teacher playing against a class . The teacher would hold all the cards but retain only those not identified by the class.
Alternatively, one part of a class could play against another to try to collect the most cards.
The cards can thus be used as an aid to enhancing memory performance and widening knowledge as well as providing endless amusement.
It is beieved that by repeating the pictures on the answer sides there is reinforcement of the memory processes.
