Abstract
232,682. Hunter, C. M. Jan. 23, 1924. Cooling gases and liquids, tubular apparatus for; radiators, motorcar and like.-In apparatus for cooling gases and liquids by means of air passing in contact. with a series of thin straight metal elements. the cooling-elements are mounted in a chamber which is swivelled in a derrick or other open support so that it can be adjusted is accordance with the direction of the wind. The apparatus shown comprises a chamber a containing inclined tubes b through which the wind passes and o v e r or around which flows steam to be condensed or gas or liquid to be cooled. The chamber is provided with an inlet d at the top; a perforated spreader plate e, and an outlet f at the bottom. Swivel joints g, h are formed in the inlet and outlet pipes to allow of rotation,. and the pipes g', h<1> leading to them are carried by a derrick. The chamber a is supported by vertical and cross bolts g<2>, g', the upper end of the bolt g<2> being rotatably carried by the pipe g<1> through a ball bearing g<4>. Flared cowls i, j conduct the wind to and from the tubes band are of such dimensions that the chamber will beturned automatically so as to dispose the tubes b in the direction of the wind. The arrangement may be such that the steam &c. passes through the tubes and the cooling-air over their exterior surfaces. A fan driven by manual steam, electric, or wind power may be provided to drive air through the air passages. A windmill may be mounted on the apparatus.
