Abstract

A collection box 1 is attached to hand operated grass clippers 2 via a slot 3 by a nut 4 and bolt 5. The other end of the box is attached to the point of the clipper blade by hole 6.

Description

1. General Description of the Product The product being considered, as conceived by Kenneth William Jackson, is The Grass Collection Box. The conccpt calls for the manufacture and distribution of a device to be used in conjunction with a conventional pair of hand-held grass clippers that will serve to catch the grass blade clippings thrown off by the clippers.

To accomplish this, The Grass CoUection Box would be configured as shown in the accompanying illustration (see Chapter Four, Portrayal). The device could be fabricated from either cast aluminium or pressed steel and would consist of an elongated box approximately the length of a clipper blade. A hole is drilled on the inside edge of the box close the one end. This hole is used to attach the box to the clippers by removing the nut from the main pivot bolt that joins the clipper blades together, inserting the end of the bold through the hole in the box and then reattaching the nut. At the opposite end of the box is a locating clip that slips over the pointed tip of one clipper blade. This arrangement results in a box being affixed along the edge of one of the clipper's blades. Thus, as the clippers are used the blades of grass thrown up in the clipping process will fall into the box rather than on the ground.

With this configuration, the process of edging along walkways, lawns, flower beds, driveways etc. can be done in a much neater and easier fashion. There would be no need to come back along afterwards and sweep uss the cuttings. The clipped blades would simply collect in the box from which they could be emptied into an appropriate receptacle. This advantage would be particularly helpful when trimming around gravelled paths, flower beds or other areas which cannot be easily swept and hence from which removing grass clippings can be difficult and tedious. The Grass Collection Box would prevent the clippings from falling into such areas in the first place and thus enable the person using this device to avoid the tedium of trying to clean away the clippings whilst assuring a neat, tidy appearance to the area being trimmed.

Claims

THE CLAIMS

1. A 'Grass Collection Box' fabricated from either aluminium, pressed steel, or plastic, is attached to hand held grass clippers.

2. The box, as in Claim 1, has 2 sides, a bottom, an end cap and is curved, which matches the profile of the blade.

3. The box, as in Claim 1 and Claim 2, contains a slot at the flat end, which is attached to the pivot point of the hand held grass clippers, by a nut, bolt and washer. The other end of the box is attached to the point of the clipper blade by a hole in the box.
