Abstract

A shower fitting comprises a vertical water supply pipe 4 having spaced apart valved outlet ports 5, and at least one shower device 6 in fluid communication with a selected outlet port, whereby more than one shower can be taken at the same time.

Description

SHOWER ENCLOSURE The invention relates to a shower device, especially but not exclusively for use in bathrooms in domestic buildings, hotels, airports and the like.
Most shower heads are connected to the water supply by a flexible hosepipe, usually made of metal. Such hoses are unsightly and prone to damage. Where two showers are required at once, say when an adult and a child shower together, the two hoses can entangle.
It is one object of the invention to provide a shower device which does not have these drawbacks.
According to the invention in one aspect the invention provides a shower enclosure including a vertical wall, a water supply pipe extending generally parallel to the wall and having spaced apart valved outlet ports, and at least one shower head in fluid communication with a selected outlet port.
Preferably two shower heads are present, each connected to a separate valved outlet port.
Both may be in use at the same time.
Preferably there are two water supply pipes, one for hot water and the other for cold water.
Preferably the water supply is boosted by a twin pump.
In a variation one of the shower heads is a standard shower head connected by a flexible pipe to the water supply pipe.
In order that the invention may be well understood, it will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of one embodiment of the invention, and Figure 2 is a side elevation of another embodiment of the invention.
The same reference numerals are used in the description of the different embodiments where possible.
The drawings show a vertical wall 1 defining part of a shower enclosure. A frame comprises an upper horizontal support or bracket 2 and lower 3 horizontal support between which extends a vertical hollow water supply pipe 4. The pipe is in fluid communication with a mixed water supply, not shown. Valved holes 5 are spaced apart along the height of the pipe. A shower device 6 comprises a head 7 having a rearward sleeve 8 by which the head is mounted on the pipe. A valve release device is present to unseal the valved hole 5, and so place the shower head in fluid communication with the water supply of the main pipe. As shown in Figure 1, two shower heads 6 are in use, one vertically above the other, each tapped into the water supply via an independent valved connection.
In the embodiment of Figure 2, one standard shower head 9 is also present and is connected by a flexible hosepipe 10 to the vertical water pipe.
The valved connection may be in the style of a garden hose snap connector.
The pipe 4 may be dimensioned to extend 1.80 or 2 metres high, giving a full body spray.
As shown three spray heads are possible, but the number may be varied.
The system may be arranged so that disconnection of the valved connection also automatically disconnects the mixed water supply to the pipe 4.
The invention offers many advantages. Unfortunately some hotel guests steal shower heads and the flexible hosepipes; this is not so easy with the device of the invention. Two people may use the same shower at once, which might be quite exciting. Cleaners can use the twin shower heads to wash down the shower enclosure. Despite the absence of a flexible pipe, the vertical position of the shower heads may be raised.
