Abstract

A ceiling tile having different patterned finishes on each of its two opposing surfaces thus enabling the user to choose between the two patterns or have a mixture of both by inverting some of the tiles. The tiles are manufactured from various materials and may be used in conjunction with standard exposed grid suspension systems. Manufacturing costs are reduced, stockists need not carry as much stock and the user has a greater choice.

Description

TWO IN ONE CEILING TILE The invention relates to ceiling tiles used in conjunction with standard exposed grid suspension systems Existing lay-in ceiling tiles are made with one downwardly facing finished surface. The tiles are manufactured from mineral fibre, glass fibre, rolled metal, pressed metal, silica products and cast GRG (glass reinforced gypsum) .
The invention is a double faced surface with one pattern of finish on one side of a ceiling tile and an alternative different pattern of finish on the reverse side, a two in one ceiling tile, the end user therefor has a choice of two face patterns on the same ceiling tile, the pattern is chosen by deciding which way around the tile is laid in the suspension system or indeed a mixture of both patterns.
Ceiling tiles manufactured in accordance with the invention have the following advantages: The client has larger choice i.e. a choice of two patterns on the same ceiling tile.
The stockist of suspended ceiling materials need carry only half as much stock by in effect having two ceiling tiles in one.
The ceiling tile manufacturer using a casting method of manufacture such as GRG will use only half the quantity of production moulds and half the quantity of raw material resulting in lower manufacturing costs A specific example of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Detail "A" shows a section through a typical existing suspended ceiling tile whereby only one downwardly facing pattern is available to the end user.
Detail "B" shows a section through the invention, a ceiling tile with one pattern of finish on the downwardly facing surface and an upwardly facing alternative pattern available on the rear reverse side of the ceiling tile. To expose the alternative pattern as the downwardly facing finished surface, the ceiling tile is either inverted or installed with the alternative pattern downwardly facing thus the end user has greater choice by having available different surface finishes on the same ceiling tile - a two in one ceiling tile.
