Abstract

Image analyser of an office machine 15 mounted in a removable manner in the machine. If a book (100) is to be scanned the image analyser (4) is received in a support (15), a shaft (13) being driven to to allow a scanning movement of the analysis means (4) in the receiving support (15). The invention is well suited to facsimile machines.

Description

1 2323995 The invention relates to office machines, such as facsimile
machines, photocopiers, which comprise an image analyser, i.e. a device comprising a photodetection module intended to analyse the image of a document by scanning.
The scanning of the image may be carried out by the entrainment of the document by means of at least one pair of entrainment rollers, disposed in facing relationship on either side of an entrainment plane. The rotation of the rollers entrains the document in movement in the entrainment plane.
is Such a scanning system, if it is suitable for the analysis of an image carried by an ordinary support sheet, however proves unusable when it is a question of analysing an image of a page of a book.
To analyse a page of a book, it is necessary to use a flat image analysis device comprising an analysis window on which the book is placed, the scanning of the page taking place by relative entrainment of the photodetection module and of the book.
However, such a solution forces a user of a machine integrating an image analysis device comprising entrainment rollers for the scanning of the image, to have an additional office machine for flat image analysis.
The invention proposes, with an office machine comprising an image analyser, to be able to analyse a document by scanning both by displacement of the document as well as by displacement of the analyser.
To this end, the invention relates to an image analyser of an office machine, comprising means for the analysis of an image by scanning, characterised by the fact that it is arranged in order to be detachably mounted in the machine and comprises receiving means in a support arranged to allow a displacement of the analysis means in the receiving support.
2 Due to this, the user of the office machine has a portable image analyser.
The invention also relates to a support for receiving an image analyser which can be removed from an office machine comprising analysis means and receiving means in the support, such as described above, the support comprising an analysis window comprising an image support face and an analysis face and means for cooperating with the receiving means of the analyser in order to set the analysis means in movement.
By virtue of this, when it is impossible to use the off ice machine, for analysing a page of a book for example, it is sufficient to remove the analyser from the machine and to introduce it into its support in order to proceed with the analysis.
Finally, the invention relates to an arrangement comprising an office machine, an image analyser which can be removed from the office machine, such as that described above, and a support for receiving the image analyser. comprising means for setting an image support in movement in the office machine, associated with a drive motor.
The invention will be better understood by means of the ensuing description of a preferred embodiment of the office machine comprising a removable image analyser and of the support for receiving the analyser, of the invention, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the office machine with its removable image analyser, according to the preferred embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is a side view of the office machine of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a front view of the receiving support with the image analyser, according to the preferred embodiment, and Figure 4 is a side view in section of the support of Figure 3, 3 through the drive rollers.
The office machine comprising an image analyser of Figure 1, is a facsimile machine 2. However, the applicant does not intend to limit the scope of their application to this particular example, but on the contrary to extend it to any office machine comprising an image analyser.
For the sake of clarity, only the components of the facsimile machine relating to the image analysis will be described, the facsimile machine 2 also comprising components for restoring the image.
The facsimile machine 2 comprises a housing 3, which is easily accessible to a user, in which the image analyser 1 of the facsimile machine 2 may be detachably fixed.
The analyser 1 comprises a photodetection ramp 4, in this case is a contact image sensor, intended to analyse the image along an analysis line by scanning.
Two shaf ts 5, 51 are mounted to rotate on the analyser 1 and extend along the analysis ramp 4, respectively on either side of the latter. Each shaft 5, 51 supports two entrainment rollers 7, 71, 8, 81.
Two other shafts are mounted to rotate on the facsimile machine 2 and each support two entrainment rollers 10, 11.
The entrainment rollers 7, 71, 8, 8' of the analyser 1 are tangential with an entrainment plane containing the analysis line of the ramp 4. The entrainment rollers 10, 11 of the facsimile machine 2 are tangential to a receiving plane intended to merge with the entrainment plane of the analyser 1 at the time of introduction of the analyser 1 into the housing 3 of the facsimile machine 2. Furthermore, each entrainment roller 7, V, 8, 8' of the analyser 1 is intended to be located opposite an 4 entrainment roller 10, 11 of the facsimile machine 2 at the time of introduction of the analyser 1 into the facsimile machine 2.
is - The entrainment rollers 7, V, 8, 8' of the analyser 1 are thus intended to cooperate in rotation with the entrainment rollers 10, 11 of the facsimile machine 2, in order to set an image support sheet in movement in the entrainment plane.
A shaf t 13, shown solely in Figures 3 and 4, supports the analysis ramp 4. The shaft 13 extends along the latter and at each of its two free ends supports a rack roller 14, 141, provided for receiving and for the entrainment of the analyser 1 in the receiving support 15, as will be explained hereafter.
Finally, the image analyser 1 comprises a common motor 12 for setting the entrainment rollers 7, 71, 8, 8' and the rack rollers 14, 141 in rotation. It will be noted that the entrainment rollers 10, 11 of the facsimile machine 2 are in this case mounted so that they are free to rotate.
The facsimile machine 2 comprises, in known manner: a loader, not shown, for documents to be analysed, in this case support sheets, which is accessible to a user and communicates with the housing 3 for receiving the analyser 1 through the intermediary of an entrainment system comprising rollers, a man/machine interface comprising a keyboard provided with an analysis control key, an analysis memory intended to contain the analysed image in the form of data, a facsimile transmitter connected to a switched telecommunication system (RTC), a control unit and a power supply unit, for the drive motor in particular.
Furthermore, the man/machine interface comprises a switch with two positions, intended to select either the drive of the entrainment rollers 7, 71, 8, 8' of the analyser 1, or the drive of the rack rollers 14, 141.
In order to be connected to the facsimile machine 2, the analyser 1 comprises a female connector intended to receive either a male connector located in the receiving housing 3, or a male connector of a wire connection end connected at its other end to the facsimile machine 2.
One could also envisage connecting the analyser 1 to the facsimile machine 2 by a radio connection.
The support 15 for receiving the removable analyser 1 will now be described.
The receiving support 15 comprises an analysis window 16 comprising a support face 17 on which the user may place a document carrying an image to be analysed, a book 100 for example, and an analysis face 18 through which the photo detection ramp 4 is intended to analyse the image whilst being set in movement for the scanning of the image, as will be explained hereafter.
The window 16 is supported in this case at its two longitudinal edges, by two side cheeks 19, 20 provided respectively with two racks 21, 22 extending parallel to the two longitudinal edges of the window 16, at a predetermined distance from the latter. The space comprised between the analysis face 18, the plane in which the racks 21, 22 extend and the two side cheeks 19, 20 constitutes a housing f or receiving the analysis ramp 4. The two racks 21, 22 are intended to receive the rack rollers 14, 14' of the analyser 1 in order to set the analysis ramp 4 in movement.
After the structural description of the facsimile machine 2, of the removable image analyser 1 and of the receiving support 15, the operation of the arrangement will now be described.
6 For an analysis by means of the facsimile machine 2, the analyser 1 is introduced into its receiving housing 3 in the facsimile machine 2 and is connected to the latter. The operation of the facsimile machine 2 takes place in conventional manner.
A user places a sheet supporting an image to be analysed in the loader of the facsimile machine 2 and selects the drive for the entrainment rollers of the analyser 1 at the switch of the man/machine interface. Under the control of the analysis key of the keyboard, the sheet is set in movement from the loader to the analyser 1 by the loading rollers, then in the analyser by the entrainment rollers 7, 71, 8, 81 of the analyser 1 driven by the common motor 12, and by the entrainment rollers 10, 11 of the facsimile machine 2.
is At the time of movement of the support sheet, the photodetection ramp 4 analyses the travelling image, along its analysis line, thus scanning the image.
The image analysed is stored in the analysis memory then transmitted to a remote facsimile machine via the RTC system by the transmitter of the facsimile machine.
In order to analyse an image which is flat, carried by a page of a book 100 for example, the user withdraws the image analyser 1 from its housing 3 in the facsimile machine 2, before introducing it into the receiving support 15 by placing the rack rollers 14, 14' on the racks 22, 21 and by connecting the wire connection in order to connect the analyser 1 to the facsimile machine 2.
Then the user places the book 100 on the analysis window 16 by turning the image to be analysed towards the support face 17, then he selects the drive for the rack rollers 14, 141 at the switch, and finally controls the analysis by pressing on the analysis key of the keyboard.
The rack rollers 14, 14', then set in rotation by the common 7 drive motor 12, move in translation along the racks 22, 21, thus entraining the photodetection ramp 4 in translation perpendicular to its analysis line.
At the time of its movement, the ramp 4 scans the analysis face 18 thus analysing the image, along its analysis line, through the analysis window 16.
One could also envisage using the image analyser 1 manually by moving it by hand over an image to be scanned. In this case, the analyser could be provided with a handle and the facsimile machine could integrate a scanning speed compensation unit intended to take into account the irregular speed of movement of the analyser for the acquisition of the analysed image data.
