Abstract
A water-driven power generator having a water wheel 10 turned by falling water, which rotates a drive shaft 22. Movement of the drive shaft 22, via a pulley system, causes the rotation of endless chains 34, to which are attached a pair of drive rods 40 via yokes 38 at their ends, the other ends of the rods being movably attached to levers 56. Each drive rod 40 is attached to a crank on a crank shaft 50, such that the rotation of the water wheel 10 is transferred to movement of the crank 50. The power rods 40 include a piston-like section 42, incorporating captive bearings 44 and a spring 46, to take up any unevenness in stroke.
Description
Water power generator
In my previous British Patent Applications
Nos. 9420656.2 and 9310838.9, a water powered generator is described which uses the force of water travelling downwards to generate power. My previously described inventions did not take best advantage of the drive rods of the generator. The aim of this invention is to provide an improved power rod for use with my previously described generators.
Accordingly, the present invention is directed to a water-driven power generator equipped with a water wheel, a drive rod which is driven by the water wheel, and two or more power rods which are each attached to separate endless chains passing round two gear wheels substantially above each other with the other end of the power rod acting on a crank shaft which leads to the power take-off, in which the yoke of the power rod is attached to the chains such that it is moved around with the chain pushing the crank to and fro, the other end of the drive rod being attached to a movable lever.
Preferably, the drive rod is equipped with a spring operated piston arrangement which enables unevenness in the stroke to be taken up.
The present invention provides the advantage that power rods are moved considerably further than previously described, therefore facilitating a better action on the crank shaft.
An example of a water powered generator made in accordance with the present invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of such a
generator;
Figure 2 is a schematic drawing of the parts of the
generator relating to the drive rod; and
Figure 3 is a schematic drawing of the generator
shown in Figures 1 and 2 with certain
modifications.
Water is provided to a wheel via pipes 12 and falls into buckets 14 which rotate the wheel. The wheel 10 is held on an axis 16. Along one side of the wheel 10 is mounted a smaller wheel 18, which is in contact with a take-off pulley 20 at its edge. The take-off pulley 20 drives a drive shaft 22. The drive shaft 22 is equipped with two drive wheels 24. Both drive wheels 24 have belts 26 passing around them. The other end of the belts 26 pass around pulley wheels 28 on further shafts 30. Each end of the two further shafts 30 is equipped with a toothed wheel 32. Around the toothed wheel 32 passes an endless chain 34. The endless chain 34 passes round further toothed wheels 36 which are mounted directly below toothed wheels 32. One link of each chain 34 is attached to one side of two respective drive yokes 38 of two drive rods 40. The two drive rods 40 are each equipped with a piston-like section 42 inside which captive bearings 44 allow the outer sheath to pass over the inner sheath. Between the joints of the two parts of the piston 42 of the drive rod 40 is a spring 46 which is held in place by flanges 48 attached to each respective part of the piston 42. Each drive rod 40 is attached to a crank on the crank shaft 50. The crank shaft 50 drives a take-off wheel 52 which provides rotary powers to the take-off 54 via belts 53. The end of the drive rod 40 opposite to the yoke 38 is movably attached to a lever 56 which is pivotally attached to a mounting mechanism 58 enabling the drive rod to move backwards and forwards.
Figure 3 shows toothed wheels 32 and endless chain 34 attached to the drive rod 40. In this case, the crank shaft 50 has been modified such that each crank has an articulation comprising two arms 60 and 62 to allow greater movement of the drive rods 40. Furthermore, the support 64 for the crank shaft 50 is pivotally mounted on a base 66 to ensure that the crank shaft can take-up the movement in the drive rod 40 caused by positional changes of the drive rod 40 due to its attachment to the endless chain 34.
