Abstract
Novel N-substituted polyalkyleneimines having at least one organic substituent of at least 6 carbon atoms e.g. 2 hydroxy octadecyl, on at least one nitrogen atom are disclosed. They may be prepared by reacting a polyalkyleneimine with either an epoxide or an imine or a compound of formula R-(X)a-Y wherein R is an organic group, X is a polar group. Y is a nucleophilic leaving group and a-0 or 1 e.g. an acid chloride or an acid anhydride. The N-substituted polyalkyleneimines can be used to lower the wax appearance temperature or to reduce the deposition of wax from a hydrocarbon e.g. crude oil containing wax.
