Abstract

An ornamental display device includes a body, which can be made in the form of a storage box, album, picture frame or table-top clock, and a cover having a frame including a base 13 and a close-fitting covering 15 adhered to the base 13. The base 13 and covering are made from different material and have formations 14,18 for coupling them together.

Description

ORNAMENTAL DISPLAY DEVICE The present invention relates to ornamental display devices.

Figures 1 and 2 show a conventional ornamental display device made in the form of a storage box. The cover of this ornamental display device lOa is covered with a decorative covering frame sheet lia having an embossed pattern. The decorative covering frame sheet ila is made from metal and fastened to the ornamental display device by an adhesive.

Because the decorative covering frame sheet ila is simply adhered to the ornamental display device 10a, it tends to come off from the ornamental display device 1 ova. In order to fixedly secure the decorative covering frame sheet lia in place, screw elements may be used. However, the installation of screw elements consumes much time and labor.

Accordino to the present invention. the ornamental display device comprises a device body, which can be made in the form ot a storage box. album. picture frame or table-top clock. and a device cover having a cover frame covered on the device body, wherein the cover frame of the device cover comprises a frame base and a close-fitting frame covering covered on the frame base and adhered thereto by an adhesive. The cover frame and the frame covering are made from different materials. The frame base has a horizontal top side, a vertical internal peripheral side and a vertical external peripheral side, and a plurality of coupling portions at least at one of the horizontal top side and vertical peripheral sides. The frame covering has a horizontal top side fitting over the horizontal top side of the frame base, a vertical internal peripheral side and a vertical external peripheral side respectively fitting over the vertical peripheral sides of the frame base, and a plurality of coupling portions at least at one of the horizontal top side and vertical peripheral sides of the frame covering and respectively forced into engagement with the coupling portions of the frame base. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the coupling portions of the frame base are coupling grooves, and the coupling portions of the frame covering are coupling Flanges respectively forced into engagement with the coupling grooves.

According to another embodiment of the present invention. the coupling portions of the frame base are raised portions. and the coupling portions of the frame covering are recessed portions respectively forced into engagement with the coupling raised portions of the frame base.

The invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, throughout which like parts are referred to by like references, and in which: Fig. 1 is an exploded view of an ornamental display device according to the prior art; Fig. 2 is a sectional assembly view of Figure 1; Fig. 3 is an elevational view of an ornamental display device according to one embodiment of the present invention; Fig. 4 is an exploded view of the ornamental display device shown in Figure 3; Fig. 5 is a side view in section of Figure 3; Fig. 6 is a sectional view of an alternate embodiment of the present invention, showing coupling flanges made on the frame base, coupling grooves made on the frame covering and forced into engagement with the coupling flanges of the frame base; Fig. 7 is an elevational view of another alternate embodiment of the present invention, showing the display device made in the form of an album; Fig. 8 is an elevational view of still another alternate embodiment of the present invention, showing the display device made in the form of a picture frame; Fig. 9 is an elevational view of still another alternate embodiment of the present invention, showing the display device made in the form of a table-top clock; Fig. 10 is an exploded view of still another alternate embodiment of the present invention, showing recessed portions made on the frame base, raised portions made on the frame covering; Fig. Ii is a sectional view of a part of still another alternate embodiment of the present invention, showing convex portions made on the raised portions of the frame covering and the frame base; and Fig. 12 is an exploded view of still another alternate embodiment of the present invention, showing coupling grooves formed at the external periphery of the frame base, coupling flanges formed at one border flange of the frame covering.

Referring to Figures 3, 4 and 5, the ornamental display device 10 is a storage box covered with cover 11. The cover 11 comprises a cover frame 12. The cover frame 12 comprises a substantiallv rectangular, open frame base 13 having a plurality of coupling grooves 14, and a decorative close-fitting frame covering 15 covered on the frame base 13. The decorative close-fitting frame covering 15 comprises two svmmetrical border flanges 16 substantially perpendicularlv raised from the border thereof at height approximately equal to that of the frame base 13 and adapted for covering over the internal and external periphery of the frame base 13, a coupling channel 17 defined between the border flanges 16 and adapted for receiving the frame base 13, and a plurality of coupling flanges 18 disposed in the coupling channel 17 and adapted to be forced into engagement with the coupling grooves 14 of the frame base 13. The frame base 13 and the frame covering 15 are made from different materials. The frame covering 15 is preferably made from metal, having an embossed pattern. Before covering the frame covering 15 on the frame base 13, an adhesive is applied to the outside wall of the frame base 13 and the inside wall of the frame covering 15. When the frame covering 15 is covered on the frame base 13, the coupling flanges 18 of the frame covering 15 are respectively forced into engagement with the coupling grooves 14 of the frame base 13. When the adhesive is hardened, the frame covering 15 and the frame base 13 are fixedly fastened together.

Figure 6 shows an alternate embodiment of the present invention, in which coupling flanges 19 are made on the frame base 13, and coupling grooves 20 are made on the frame covering 15 and forced into engagement with the coupling flanges 19 of the frame base 13.

Referring to Figures 7, 8 and 9, the ornamental display device 10 can be made in the form of an album (see Figure 7), a picture frame (see Figure 8), or a table-top clock (see Figure 9).

Figure 10 shows another alternate embodiment of the present invention, in which recessed portions 141 are made on the frame base 13, and raised portions 181 are made on the frame covering 15 and forced into engagement with the recessed portions 141. The recessed portions 141 and the raised portions 181 may be made in any of a variety of shapes, for example, thev can be made of rhombic shape longitudinally and transversely aligned.

Figure 11 shows still another alternate embodiment of the present invention, in which convex portions 142 are bilaterally formed in the recessed portions 141, and convex portions 182 are bilaterally formed in the raised portions 181. When the raised portions 181 are respectively forced into the recessed portions 141, the respective convex portions 182 of the raised portions 181 are forced over the respective convex portions 142 of the recessed portions to reinforce the engagement between the raised portions 181 and the recessed portions 141.

Figure 12 shows still another alternate embodiment of the present invention, in which the coupling grooves 14 are formed at the external periphery of the frame base 13, and the coupling flanges 18 are formed at one border flange 16 of the frame covering 15 on the-inside and respectively forced into engagement with the coupling grooves 14.

Claims

1. An ornamental display device comprising a device body and a device cover having a cover frame covered on said device body, wherein the cover frame of said device cover is comprised of a frame base and a close-fitting frame covering covered on said frame base, said cover frame and said frame covering being made 5 from different materials, said frame base comprising a horizontal top side, a vertical internal peripheral side and a vertical external peripheral side, and a plurality of coupling portions at least at one of the horizontal top side and vertical peripheral sides of said frame base, said frame covering comprising a horizontal top side fitting over the horizontal top side of said frame base, a vertical internal peripheral side and a vertical external peripheral side respectively fitting over the vertical peripheral sides of said frame base, and a plurality of coupling portions at least at one of the horizontal top side and vertical peripheral sides of said frame covering and respectively forced into engagement with the coupling portions of said frame base.

2. The ornamental display device of claim l wherein the coupling portions of said frame base are coupling grooves. and the coupling portions of said frame covering are coupling flanges respectively forced into engagement with the coupling grooves of said-frame base.

3. The ornamental display device of claim 1 wherein the coupling portions of said frame base are coupling flanges, and the coupling portions of said frame covering are coupling grooves respectively forced into engagement with the coupling grooves of said frame base.

4. The ornamental display device of claim 1 wherein the coupling portions of said frame base are recessed portions, and the A coupling portions of said frame covering are raised portions respectively forced into engagement with the recessed portions of said frame base.

5. The ornamental display device of claim 1 wherein the coupling portions of said frame base are raised portions, and the coupling portions of said frame covering are recessed portions respectively forced into engagement with the raised portions of said frame base.

6. The ornamental display device of claim 1 wherein said frame base and said frame covering are adhered together by an adhesive.

7. The ornamental display device of claim 1 wherein said device body isa storage box.

S. The ornamental display device of claim l wherein said device body is an album.

9. The ornamental display device of claim 1 wherein said device body is a picture frame.

10. The ornamental display device of claim I wherein said device body is a clock.

11. An ornamental display device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to Figures 3 to 5, Figure 6, Figure 7, Figure 8, Figure 9, Figure 10, Figure 11 or Figure 12 of the accompanying drawings.
