Abstract

A bird feed sales package comprises a feed storage bag (1) with a wide edge strip 2, which closes the bag upper end and has a suspension hole 3, two indentations 11, 11 at the bag side edges in the lower region of the bag to form lower, horizontally projecting portions able to be cut open to provide spreadable feed access openings 13, and a wide edge strip 4, which closes the bag lower end and has at least two insertion holes 5, 8 for a bird perching bar. The package also comprises a perching bar 9 able to be pushed into the insertion holes 5, 8 of the lower edge strip 4 and to freely project from the bag to provide perches in the vicinity of the feed access openings.

Description

BIRD FEED SALES PACKAGE The present invention relates to a bird feed sale package.
Bird feed houses or stations of diverse forms of construction are set up or hung in gardens and generally refilled with bird feed when birds have pecked away the feed contained in and offered at the houses or stations.
Refilling of bird feed houses and stations is commonly by way of flexible transport containers filled with bird feed and in the form of bags which are opened and emptied at the locations of the houses or stations, so that the houses or stations can be replenished in this way with a new feed reserve.
This form of supplying bird feed to the bird word needs two separate articles, namely a house or station and a transport container for the feed.
The invention has the object of creating a possibility of supplying bird feed with use of only one article, namely a bird feed sale package usable as a dispenser.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a sale package for bird feed in bag form, which is characterised by a wide bag wall edge strip, which closes the bag upper side, with an insertion hole, one or two bag narrowings at the bag side edges in the lower region thereof, which is to be cut open in the lower, horizontally projecting portion for the creation of a spread-apart feed access opening, a wide bag wall edge strip, which closes the bag lower side, with at least two insertion holes, and a bird perching bar to be pushed into the two insertion holes of the lower bag wall edge strip and to freely project out from the lower bag wall edge strip.
Expediently, the bag is produced from a transparent plastics material foil hose.
The bird perching bar can be detachably secured to the outer surface of the bag wall by means of an easily detachable adhesive strip.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a sale package for bird feed in bag form, characterised by a wide bag wall edge strip, which closes the bag upper side, with an insertion hole, one or two bag narrowings at the bag side edges in the lower region thereof, which is or are to be cut in the lower, horizontally projecting portion for the creation of a spread-apart feed access opening or openings, and horizontally projecting bird perching bars shaped, welded or glued on to the bag wall below the feed access opening or openings.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing, the single figure of which is a perspective view, approximately in natural size, of a bird feed sales package embodying the invention.
Referring now to the drawing there is shown a bird feed sales package comprising a bag 1 for storage and transport of birdseed feed 14, which bag possesses a wide bag wall edge strip 2, which closes the bag upper end, with an insertion hole 3 serving for hanging the bag 1 at a suspension hook or string (not illustrated).
One or two narrowings are provided in the lower region of the bag at one bag side edge or both bag side edges. The or each narrowing is expediently closed by a weld seam 11.
In the lower region of such narrowings the weld seams 11 are cut away along cut lines 12, whereby two bird feed outlet openings 13, which are able to spread apart under the weight of birdseed feed 14 trickling down inside the bag, are provided.
The bag 1 is closed at the lower end by a wide bag wall edge strip 4 with at least two insertion holes 5 and 8, into which a bird perching bar 9 can be pushed so that its ends protrude to provide perches for birds seeking and receiving feed.
In the case of the embodiment illustrated in the drawing, the lower edge strip 4 has four insertion holes 5, 6, 7 and 8 serving to receive a bar 9, which is otherwise removably secured to the outer surface of the wall of the bag 1 by means of an easily detachable adhesive strip 10.
The described package for storage and transport of bird feed is very well suited, despite its simple mode of construction and its low cost price, to serve as a bird feed station, so that the use of such a bag makes setting up of a separate bird feed station superfluous.

Claims (11)

1. A bird feed sales package comprising a feed storage bag which is closed at an intended upper end thereof at which the bag may be suspended and which has a narrowed portion in the region of an intended lower end thereof to form at least one lower end lateral projection able to be opened to provide a respective outlet for feed in the bag, and a bird perching element attached or attachable to the bag to provide a bird perch in the vicinity of such outlet or outlets.
2. A package as claimed in claim 1, wherein the bag is closed at the intended upper end thereof by an upper edge strip provided with an insertion hole for suspension means.
3. A package as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the narrowed portion is provided by an indentation at at least one lateral edge of the bag.
4. A package as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the outlet or outlets can be provided by cutting the material of the bag.
5. A package as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the bag is made from transparent plastics material.
6. A package as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the bag is closed at the intended lower end thereof by a lower edge strip provided with at least two insertion holes for the element, the element being insertable into those holes to protrude from the lower edge strip.
7. A package as claimed in claim 6, wherein the element is detachably secured to the bag wall and removable therefrom for reattachment to provide the perch.
8. A package as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the element is attached to the bag wall in a position which in use is below the outlet or outlets.
9. A package as claimed in claim 8, comprising a plurality of such elements attached to the bag wall.
10. A package as claimed in claim 8 or claim 9, wherein the or each element is attached to the bag wall by one of welding, gluing or moulding in place.
11. A bird feed sales package substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
