Abstract

The flyscreen is constructed using four lengths 1 of extruded PVC material, cut to a suitable length and inserted into sockets in four corner mouldings 2 to form a frame which covers the casement window aperture. Two hinges 3 and two locking catches 4 are added to the side members of the frame and a handle pocket 5 is positioned against the inside face of the side member adjacent to the window opening handle. The assembled components of the frame present a flat surface 7 to which is attached a sheet of fine screen mesh material 6. The completed flyscreen assembly is then attached to the casement frame by means of the hinge and locking catch components.

Description

FtYSCREEN FOR CASEMENT WINDOWS.
This invention relates to a flyscreen for Casement Windows.
Flyscreens generally comprise a screen ofmesh fabric attached to a frame of suitably rigid material which, when made to a specific size and shape and positioned against the frame of a window aperture, will prevent the ingress of flies and insects when the window is open.
Flyscreens currently available are normally of the sliding frame type with guide channels requiring a degree of specialised knowledge to construct and install.
The simplified modular construction principle employed in the design here described permits unskilled assembly of a flyscreen to suit any size or rectangular shape of window with consequently lower cost.
The flyscreen comprises four lengths of rectangular section extruded PVC which are inserted into sockets with a mating profile in four right angled corner mouldings to form a frame with a flat surface to which a suitable mesh material is attached.
A moulded cover is positioned inside the frame at a point where it will cover the protruding opening handle of the window and suitable hinges and locking catches are attached at points on the rectangular side members.
The hinges and locking catches are attached to the widow frame using a suitable PVC adhesive.
A PVC adhesive is used to bond the contact surfaces of the frame components.
In use the flyscreen is closed against the casement frame and secured by the catches. To open or close the glazed window, the catches are released and the flyscreen is opened to access the window opening handle. After opening or closing the window the flyscreen is closed and the catches secured.
Referring to the drawing Fig.1. the flyscreen comprises four lengths of rectangular section extruded PVC 1 having a groove in two opposite sides which are inserted into sockets with a mating profile in four corner mouldings 2 to form a frame with a flat surface 7 to which a suitable mesh material 6 is attached.
A moulded cover 5 is positioned inside the frame where it will cover the window opening handle, moulded hinges 3 and locking catches 4 are attached to the side members of the frame.
A suitable PVC adhesive is used to bond all contacting surfaces.
The completed flyscreen is attached to PVC casement window frames by the half hinge 8 and the catch plate 9 which are bonded to the casement frame with PVC adhesive.
For attachment to wood framed casement windows the half hinge 8 and catch plate 9 are attached by means of wood screws through countersunk holes.
As locking catches and hinges can be designed in a variety of configurations they are not shown in detail in this description and do not comprise part of a claim
