Abstract

The invention comprises of a pan made of heat conducting material on the inside and non heat conducting material on the outside, with a cylindrical shape moulded up from the centre of its base to the height of its rim. Above this is placed the solar lid, made of whitened glass with a convex lens placed at an angle in such a way that the converging sunlight is directed at the top of the pan's cylinder. The glass is curved inwards at the base of the pan to collect the distilled water running down the sides. This collector channel communicates with a duct set in the centre of the lid's handle. Small versions of the pan and lid may be manually moved about and therefor require a pan handle directly below the lid one. Larger versions need an aperture for pumping in more water and cleaning out any chemical residues.

Description

THE SOLAR LID This invention delivers solar distillation of contaminated or salinated water.
Distillation processes are well known worldwide. This invention integrates the process of transforming contaminated or salinated water into potable water by transforming water into steam and back again and the use of solar energy. It is useful wherever there is a shortage of potable water and an availability of strong sunlight.
The invention consists of an adapted pan and a solar lid. The essential features of the pan are that it is made out of heat conducting material on the inside, with a moulded cylindrical shape rising from the centre of the pan's base to the height of it's rim, with the pan's outside being made of non conductive material.
The essential features of the lid include a convex lens set into otherwise whitened glass and at a slight angle to the top of the pan's cylinder so that converging rays are directed to that part of the cylinder protruding above the water line.
The circular base of the lid's rim curves inwards to act as a collector channel for the potable water and communicates with a flow duct which is enclosed by the downward pointing lid handle.
Small sizes of the invention also have a handle attached to the pan which aligns to the lid's handle. Larger sizes require water to be pumped into the pan and regular mechanical cleaning of remaining distillate. Adjacent tilting mechanisms are necessary for very large pans.
.R x A specific example of the inventiom is described the way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows an aerial view of the light accessible convex'lens.
Figure 2 shows a cross section of the lens and the collecting channel.
Figure 3 shows a cross section of the pan and the cylindric,al féceptor.
Figure 4 shows a cross section side view of the lid and-the pan together

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A pan and lid adapted to produce and collect distilled water and com prising of a convex lens set into otherwise whitened glass and which directs sunlight onto a heat conducting cylindrical shape protruding from the centre of the base of the pan.
  2. 2. An adapted lid as in Claim 1, the rim of which is curved inwards in order to collect water dripping down the lids internal surface.
  3. 3. A lid as in Claim 1, with a downward directed glass handle containing a water duct for collecting the distilled water from the channel at the base of the pan's rim as in Claim 2.
  4. 4. A lid as in Claim 1,2, and 3, set on a pan as in Claim 1, which is made of heat conducting material on the inside and non conducting material on the outside.
  5. 5. A pan as in Claim 1 and 4, which has an optional handle depending on its size and an aperture to pump in water and flush out any chemical distillate remaining.
