Abstract

A reservoir toothbrush has a cylindrical body attached to a brush head having a cylindrical cap with pocket clip. Paste is dispensed by a threaded rod turned by a thumbwheel to move a piston in the body. Both the cap and head are snapped on, or screwed on, to the body. The clip is one with the cap, or is a sprung metal strip.

Description

Portable Complete Oral Hygiene system This invention relates to a pocket/handbag portable oral hygiene system with built in oral cleaning application.
Brushing to achieve oral hygiene has been by way of hand held brush with bristles upon which an oral cleaning application has been placed. The action of brushing with the said brush and application has achieved cleanliness of the mouth and teeth by removal of food debris, plaque, inhibiting plaque build up , prevention of tooth decay, freshness of breath and eradication of oral odours from strongly flavoured consumables such as strong foods, tobacco smoke, alcohol etc.
Although portable, the brush has also needed to be accompanied by the cleaning application and as such has inhibited pocket or handbag portability for occasional use outside the home. Furthermore the open aspect of the bristles on this traditional type of brush, gives rise to contamination by foreign bodies and insects, preventing hygiene from being maintained. Damage may also occur shortening the serviceable life span of the brush. These problems inhibit the usage and therefore regular brushing rendering the initial objective lost.
According to the present invention, there is provided the portable complete oral hygiene system comprising a toothbrush body in the form of a cylinder running into a head with bristles, this appendage being encased in a removable cylindrical cap with a clip to attach or not into a pocket when not in use.
The cylindrical body according to the present invention is a dispenser for the cleaning application with an appropriate means for propelling the application through an aperture at the end of the body so as to dispose the cleaning application into/onto the head of the bristles. The body will carry a volume of cleansing application sufficient to be used on 20 to 30 occasions, notwithstanding this it will be sufficiently small to fit and clip easily within a pocket but large enough to carry the requisite volume of cleaning agent. This body may be removable from the neck of the brush or may be attached as a one piece construction to provide the option for replenishable cartridges by way of a threaded neck.
Portable Complete Oral Hygiene system A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which : Figure 1 shows in perspective, the brush with the cylindrical cap in place.
Figure 2 illustrates the separation of the cap from the main body of the brush.
Figure 3 shows the separation of the brush head from the main body of the brush.
Figure 4 shows the main body of the brush without the brush head in detachable mode.
Figure 5 Shows the separation of the external cartridge from the propulsion mechanism.
Figure 6 shows the propulsion mechanism.
Figure 7 shows the separation of the cleaning application plunger from the propulsion mechanism.
Figure 8 shows the brush with replenishable cylinder attached or a view of a one piece construction with cap separated.
Referring to the drawings the invention comprises a body, together with a brush head and a removable cap which may be used to secure the item into a pocket by means of a spring clip.
The body containing the cleaning application may be a one piece construction with the brush head or may be a replenishable unit removable from the brush head by means of a screw thread.
The cleaning application is propelled by means of a threaded screw and threaded plunger turned by a thumbwheel at the base of the main body. The top of the body will have square shoulders to ensure that the maximum cleaning application is dispensed to the bristles.

Claims (6)

  1. Portable Complete Oral Hygiene system
CLAIMS 1. A portable complete oral hygiene system comprising a toothbrush body in the form of a cylinder running into a head with bristles, the bristle appendage being encased in a removable cylindrical cap with a clip to attach or not into a pocket when not in use. The cylindrical body is a dispenser for the cleaning application with a thumb wheel propulsion system which is situated at the base of the cylinder body, which body may be a one piece construction with the head of bristles or detachable from it for replacement.
  2. 2 A portable complete oral hygiene system as claimed in claim 1 wherein the cap is either snapped or screwed to the main body by means of a flexible or threaded cap respectively.
  3. 3. A portable complete oral hygiene system as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the spring clip is provided on the cap by means of a strip of a sprung metal or a one piece construction of the same material from which the cap is moulded.
  4. 4. A portable complete oral hygiene system as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 or claim 3 wherein the body containing the cleaning application in its optional disposable and replaceable mode is connected to the brush head by means of a screw threaded neck or a snappable connection by means of a flexible neck at the base of the brush head.
  5. 5. A portable complete oral hygiene system as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the means of propulsion of the cleaning application from the cylinder body containing the cleaning application is effected by means of turning a thumbwheel situated at the base of the cylinder which turns a threaded pole which has situated on it a threaded plunger which, flush to the inner sides of the cylinder to avoid leakage, will rise to expel the cleaning application through the aperture at the neck of the brush head.
  6. 6. A portable complete oral hygiene system as claimed in any preceding claim wherein the means of propulsion may be by an alternative method to that described in claim 5.
7 A portable complete oral hygiene system substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 - 8 of the accompanying drawings.
