Taximeter flag and setting-spindle mechanism; with recording devices.-A printing unit for recording in a taximeter comprises a number of hammers arranged to impress a record strip against type wheels in succession when the printing key is operated, and also interlocking means between the flag spindle and the printing key to ensure that the latter shall not be operated until the flag has been set to printing position, and that the flag shall not be reset until the printing key has been operated. The record strip T is fed over type wheels W which are set by the registering mechanism of the taximeter and is marked by hammers 23 on plates 20. The hammers are supported by adjustably mounted springs 21, and are normally held up by cams 17 on a shaft 15. They are allowed to drop in succession to effect the printing when the shaft 15 is rotated through gearing 14, 13, 11 by a rotary printing key K mounted on a spindle 51, Fig. 10. This spindle, and the spindle 60 of the flag F, are interlocked by engaging notched discs 55, 61 and a double-acting spring-controlled locking pawl D. The printng-key spindle is locked when the flag is in the " tariff " positions F<1>, F<2> or in the " not registering " position F<3>, but may be given half a turn when the flag is in the position F<4> to actuate the printing mechanism. The flag may then be moved to the " disengaged " position F where it is locked until the printing key has been given another half turn in order to feed the record strip T forward. The strip T is fed from a roll A through a pivoted guide G and over a type guard G<3> by a feeding roller R which is driven intermittently from the cam shaft 15 by a geneva stop device 30. Included in the drive is a clutch 36 which enables the strip to be fed by a hand-wheel 37 when desired. The lower feed roller R<1> is carried by spring controlled pivoted arms R<2>. The inking ribbon 42 is arranged to move in the opposite direction to the strip T and is fed by a reel-shaft 45 which is driven from the shaft 7 by gearing 47, 4R. The casing containing the printing unit may be readily detached from the taximeter, a pin-andslot joint 8 being arranged between the gear 11 and the cam-shaft driving spindle 7.
