Abstract

An attachment for a vacuum cleaner facilitates sucking up liquids without taking the liquid into the machine and in use is attached to the end of the vacuum cleaner hose. The device comprises a length of tube having a blocking internal wall about halfway along its length. Surrounding the tube is a chamber 1. Liquid sucked up is entrained in the air drawn in, and enters the chamber through holes in the tube shown in the drawing. The liquid falls to the bottom of the chamber and the air then passes back into the tube through further holes which are normally closed by a spring loaded shuttle valve 3 above the blocking wall, and thence to the vacuum cleaner. A float shut off valve 2 is provided in the chamber which will block entry of the air liquid mixture if the level of liquid in the chamber is such that further entry will cause it to pass on to the vacuum cleaner. The spring loaded shuttle valve can be manually altered in position to adjust the degree of vacuum.

Description

'VAOUATEC SPILLMASTER BY WINTER THIS INVENTION RELA TES TO A LIO UlD RESER VOIR VACUUM CLEANER ATTACHMENT.
BACKGROUND VACUUM CLEANERS ARE WIDELY USED. THERE ARE SOME UNITS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR WET AND DRY USE. THE MAJORITY ARE NOT CAPABLE OF SUCKING UP LIQUIDS.
A RESERVOIR ATTACHMENT WITH LIQUID SEPARATION TO CONNECT TO ANY VACUUM CLEANER WOULD ENABLE SPILLAGES TO BE REMOVED QUICKLY AND EASILY.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL FEATURES IN THIS INVENTION THERE IS A RIGID TUBE ABOUT 1 METRE LONG WHICH IS SEALED INTERNALLY AT THE CENTRE. SURROUNDING THIS IS A SEALED RECEPTACLE AROUND THE TUBE. WITHIN THE RECEPTACLE IS A FLOAT VALVE. ABOVE THE RECEPTACLE INSIDE THE TUBE IS A SPRUNG LOADED SHUTTLE VALVE.
EXAMPLE A SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED BY WAY OF EXAMPLE WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING.
THE VACUUM HOSE IS CONNECTED TO THE TOP OF THE TUBE NEAR THE SHUTTLE VALVE, FIGURE 3. WHEN THE VACUUM IS PRESENT IT CAN BE INTRODUCED TO THE RECEPTACLE, FIGURE 1, BY MOVING THE SHUTTLE VALVE FORWARDS. THE VACUUM ATTACHMENT NOZZLE CAN NOW BE USED TO FILL THE RECEPTACLE, FIGURE 1, WITH LIQUID WASTE. THE MAIN USE OF THE VAQUATEC SPILLMASTER WILL BE ON FLOORING. THE RECEPTACLE CAN BE REMOVED FOR CLEANING.

Claims (4)

1. An attachment that can be connected to a 'dry' vacuum cleaner to separate dry waste or liquid waste and collect the waste in the body of the attachment storing the waste away from the vacuum cleaner waste receptacle.
2. An attachment as in claim 1 which can be connected to a 'wet and dry' vacuum cleaner to separate dry waste or liquid waste and collect the waste in the body of the attachment storing the waste away from the vacuum cleaner waste receptacle.
3. An attachment as in claim 1 and 2 with a float assembly to shut off the vacuum should the attachment become full of waste liquid.
4. An attachment as in claim 1, 2, and 3 with a shuttle valve enabling variable vacuum and automatic venting of the vacuum when control is released.
