Abstract

An injection moulded plastics swivel for hanging baskets comprises a hanger 2 b having a hole in its base into which is snap fitted a holder 2 a having two spaced sides with a ledge for engaging the base. A hanging basket ring is inserted between the spaced sides of the holder. A peg 2 c is inserted between the sides of the holder after fitting to prevent disengagement.

Description

SWIVEL ATTACHMENT FOR HANGING BASKETS This invention relates to a Swivel attachment for hanging baskets.

Hanging baskets are widely used containers of plants for display, which comprise a wire or plastic container usually suspended by some means, for example chains, from some form of bracket attachment, by means of an eyelet or hook.

This arrangement, however, only allows the container to be attached to the bracket in two positions, the second position 180 degrees from the first, allowing no adjustment of the basket to ensure that the display is maximized visually to its full potential, and that equal growth is achieved by the plants.

According the present invention, there is provided a swivel attachment comprising three plastic injection moulded components: a Hanger (Fig. 1 a), which locates onto the support bracket/hook or similar device a holder (Fig. lib), which holds hanging basket ring or hook or similar device, and which incorporates a friction brake in the design a Spacer (Fig. 1 c), which locates into holder and prevents holder from dropping from hanger and also acts as friction brake.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the individual components Figure 2 shows the method of assembly Figure 3 shows assembly or in position Referring to the drawing, the swivel comprises a hanger (Fig la), a Holder (Fig. lib), and a Spacer peg (Fig. inc).

The loop, hook or similar device holding the chains or other securing methods of the basket (Fig. 2d) is inserted into the Holder (2b) as shown in Fig. 2.

The holder with basket fitting attached is located on the Hanger (Fig. 2a) by compressing sides of holder (Fig. 2b), and snapping through base of the Hanger. The sides of the holder then snap back apart.

The spacer Peg (Fig. 2c) is then located into the slot in the holder ensuring that the holder sides cannot compress and thereby fall out.

The complete Swivel assembly is offered to the bracket or hook or similar device and simply hooked on or over.

The Holder, the Spacer Peg have a collar which locates them onto the Hanger. The design of the components is such that the collar acts upon the base of the Hanger forming a friction brake. This. is activated by the weight of a hanging basket upon the collar of the holder and base of Hanger.

This prevents free rotation of the assembly ensuring that the basket stays in the desired position until required.

The Swivel can be removed from both the bracket or basket by reversing the. above procedure.

For lightness, strength and durability without corrosion, the ease of manulacture, in an attractive appearance, the components of the attachment may be moulded of plastics material.

Claims

1. A Swivel for hanging baskets comprising a hanger, a holder, and a spacer, which snap together around the hanging basket chain, and enable the basket to be rotated to a desired position.

2. A Swivel for hanging baskets as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the holder, which holds the basket ring is squeezed together and snapped through the base of the hanger, the shoulders of the hanger resting on the base of the hanger providing the Swivel.

3. A Swivel for hanging baskets as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein the spacer locates into the top of the holder, preventing the holder from falling back through the hanger by keeping the shoulders apart and firmly on the base of the hanger.

4. A Swivel for hanging baskets as claimed in Claim 3 wherein the action of the spacer in conjunction with the holder, forms a friction brake on the swivel holding the swivel in a set place until desired to be rotated.

5. A Swivel for hanging baskets as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the swivel can be disassembled by reversing the assembly procedure.

6. A hanging basket Swivel substantially as described herein in figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings.
