Abstract
A gravity ramp 1 for use in stores for display and delivery of goods 2,2',2'' comprises a sloping shelf 16 angled at 4-10{ and two nylon filaments of about 1 mm dia. arranged parallel on the shelf surface to provide a low friction sliding surface for the goods. A guide is provided on one or both sides of the ramp and a buffer pad 20 prevents damage as the goods slide.
Description
A RAMP
The present invention relates to a ramp suitable particularly for presenting goods in stores.
Ramping delivery arrangements where the ramp surface slopes towards the front of a shelf or rather the shelf itself is sloped to ensure the goods gravitate towards the front of the shelf is known. However, a problem arises since the coefficient of friction between the ramp or other sloped surface and the goods is quite high. This results in the requirement for a considerably steep slope so that access to the rear of the slope when there are several shelves may be restricted or else the shelves must be separated more than is desirable consistent with overall shelf capacity.
Accordingly a ramp according to the invention comprises a frame, a pair of filaments mounted longitudinally across the frame, the filaments sloping longitudinally and a guide either transverse side of the pair.
It has been found that this provides a low and small frictional surface so that the ramp can be sloped quite gently for display purposes.
Preferably the filaments are held taut over a ramp surface so that the surface supports the filaments from below.
The filaments are preferably sloped between 4 and 10 degrees.
Where fragile goods are concerned it is advantageous to provide a buffering step of suitably resilient material at the lower end of the filaments.
The filaments should preferably be made of a suitable plasticlike nylon, the surface of which has a low coefficient of friction.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal cross section of
the ramp of the invention taken on I-I of Figure 2,
Figure 2 is a plan view of the ramp of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse cross-section of
the ramp of the invention taken on III-III of Figure
2.
The ramp shown in Figures 1 and 3 is indicated generally at 1.
The ramp is designed to present goods 2, 2' and 2" ....
sequentially at the front and lower end 4 of the ramp. The goods may be glass jars or bottles.
The ramp comprises a frame consisting of a sloping ramp surface 6 mounted to side plates 8 the upper parts 10 of which act as guides for goods gravitating down the ramp. Stretched between an upper pair of holes 12 in surface 6 and a lower pair of holes 14 in surface 6 are two lengths 16 of nylon monofilament approximately lmm in diameter. These filaments 16 are held under tension in the holes 12 and 14 by means of crimped fasteners 18.
A buffer pad 20 is provided on front and lower end plate 22.
The slope of ramp 1 is angled at angle and which is preferably 50 but which may be 4 to 100 depending on the kind of goods to be conveyed. A slope of 50 works so well for glass bottles weighing 600 grammes that the buffer pad 20 is very necessary to prevent excess speed down the ramp breaking a bottle.
Whilst the ramp was originally designed as part of a shelving or display system, it has been considered useful for other purposes such as a toy.
Claims (7)
