Abstract

A folding trolley comprises a handle 1 mounted on a wheeled chassis, a platform 6 and tensioning cables 7 rigidly holding the chassis and platform in their unfolded configurations, means being provided to disconnect the handle from the chassis and to loosen the tensioning cables to allow the chassis and platform to fold. The chassis may be formed from a longitudinal member 2 connected pivotally through to a transverse member 3, at the ends of which legs 4 carrying the wheels 5 may be pivotally mounted, the pivots (8, 9 figure 4) allowing the chassis to fold (figure 5). The platform may be diamond shaped and may be flexible, the tensioning cables holding it taut. The tensioning cables may be attached to points on the chassis. The trolley may be used to carry personal goods such as a rucksack.

Description

FOLDING RUCKSACK TROLLEY This invention relates to a folding rucksack trolley.
Many people who would like to go backpacking are put off by the weight of a Loaded rucksack.
According to the present invention there is provided a folding rucksack trolley comprising a handle, a wheeled chassis, a platform and tensionino cables to hold taut the chassis and platform with means provided to rijsconnect the handle from the chassis, and means to loosen the cables in order. to fold the chassis and platform.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the trolley in its fully-assembled form.
Fioure 2 shows in perspective the trolley with the platform removed to give a ruller view of the tensioning cables and chassis.
Fioure 3 shows the chassis with the handle detached and the cables & platform removed .
Fioure 4 shows the first stage in folding the chassis.
Figure 5 shows the second stage in folding the chassis.
referring to the drawing the trolley may be partially disassembled and folded for compact storage when not in use, and it is therefore necessary to describe it in its different forms from its fully operational state to its disassembled and folded form.
In its fully assembled and operational state, as shown in Fig.1, the trolley comprises a wheeled chassis supporting a diamond-shaped platform 6. A handle 1 is provided for pulling or pushing the trolley manually. This handle is detachably connected to one end of the lengthwise chassis member 2, referrino to Fig.2. t right angles to it is the crosswise chassis member 3. Pt each end of the crosswise chassis member there is a vertical leg 4. At the foot of each leo is a wheel 5.
Thr wheeled chassis, consisting of parts 2,3,4 & 5, is held rigid by a system of cables 7. In Fig.2 the platform has been omitted so that the cables can be seen more clearly. These cables also serve to hold taut the platform which is made of flexible material. The cables pass through channels at the edges of the platform.
The trolley may be partially disassembled and folded for compact storage. To do this the handle must first be disconnected from the chassis as in Fig.3.
The cables and platform can then be loosened from the legs and/or from each end of the lengthwise chassis member 2 by means of detachable clips.
urine the cables and platform have been loosened from the chassis, the chassis may be folded for compact storage. This is done in two stages. Referring to rit first the legs are folded under the lateral chassis member 3, by means of pivots 8. The lateral and lenothwise chassis members 2 & 3 are then brought parallel to eachother, as in Fig.5, by means of pivot 9 which connects these two members.
To reassemble the trolley the steps described above are carrjed o'jt in the reverse sequence.

Claims (5)

1 A folding rucksack trolley comprising a handle, a wheeled chassis, a platform and tensioning cables to hold taut the chassis and platform with means provided to disconnect the handle from the chassis, and means to loosen the cables in order to fold the chassis and platform.
A A folding rucksack trolley as claimed in Claim 1 wherein means are provided to connect or disconnect the handle to one end of the lengthwise chassis member by means of a locking device.
3 A folding rucksack trolley as claimed in Claim 1 & 2 wherein tensioninq cables are provided to hold rigid the wheeled chassis, with means to connect the cables to various specific points on the chassis.
4 A folding rucksack trolley as claimed in Claims 1,2 & 3 wherein part of the system of chassis tensioning cables also serves to hold taut the platform by way of passing the cables through channels at the edges of the platform.
5 A folding rucksack trolley as claimed in Claims 1,2,3 & t!, in which pivots are provided which serve both to connect the chassis components and which allow the chassis to be folded once the tensioning cables have been loosened.
6 r. folding rucksack trolley substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-5 of the accompanying drawing.
