Abstract
A display case constructed from card, cardboard, plastic or other material as an alternative to traditional wood and glass has a plain or plinthed main box compartment (9) with a transparent panel or window (10) to the front elevation. A mounting card is inserted into the main box compartment via a flap in the top or side of the main box compartment or via a hinged front panel. Wall mounting of the complete case is by means of adhesive pads on the rear of the case or using screw holes in the rear plinth. The size, shape and exterior finish of the display case can be varied appropriate to the material to be displayed.
Description
WALL MOUNTED DISPLAY CASE
This invention relates to a wall mounted display case.
Wall mounted display cases for exhibits, collections, clothing and memorabilia are well known. These tend to be made from traditional materials incorporating a wooden frame or case and a glass panel or panels.
Traditionally constructed wall mounted display cases tend to be heavy, expensive and require a high level of workmanship to produce. This makes their mass production and easy availability difficult to achieve.
The advent of replica sports kits and garments which are superseded, frequently at regular intervals, leaves the owners of previous versions with the problem of finding any further use for them. Having a cheap, easily available alternative to traditionally produced display cases would provide a display use for these kits and other garments thus filling this gap in the market.
Clubs, associations and other organisations often commission traditionally constructed wall mounted display cases to provide a historical record of the development of their garments. This is expensive and would be beyond the means of most people who may wish to do the same with their own replica sports kits or other garments.
A cheaper, lightweight, mass-produced version of such wall mounted display cases would provide this facility widely, as well as providing a use for superseded replica sports kits.
According to the present invention there is provided a wall mounted display case comprising of a main box compartment constructed of card, cardboard or plastic with a transparent front window or panel.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective, the display case with a replica sports garment in position;
Figure 2 illustrates the inserted mounting board to which the garment is secured;
Figure 3 shows adhesive pads and holes as the means of wall mounting the case; and
Figure 4 shows in side elevation the opening flap to the top of the display case for the insertion of the mounting board.
Referring to the drawing in Fig 1, the display case comprises of a box construction (9) of card, cardboard or plastic with a transparent plastic or perspex window or panel (10) at the front elevation. The box can be of plain rectangular construction or incorporating a plinth effect (11). This type of display case can also be constructed in a variety of sizes and shapes and with unlimited variations on exterior finishes.
A panel (12) is incorporated in the front elevation for the insertion of a description of the contents of the case.
The garment for display is secured, using pins, to a card for insertion into the case as shown in Fig 2. The detachable perforated collar support (13) can be dispensed with if the display case is to be used for garments without a collar.
Access to the case is by opening flap to the top of the case as shown in Fig 4.
In order to secure the display case to a wall Fig 3 shows self adhesive pads (14) for quick fixing and holes (15) as a screw fixing alternative.
There may also be wider applications for this type of display case for the display of collections and exhibits where the size and shape of the case and mounting board are adapted appropriate to the type of exhibit or collection to be displayed. Similarly, the means of access for the mounting card into the main box compartment can be via a side opening flap or via a hinged front panel. For example, the whole construction of the display case and mounting board could be of square or hexagonal shape rather than rectangular as in the specific embodiment if this is desired or more appropriate to what is to be displayed.
