Abstract

A pouch of polyethylene for containing printers' ink is made from tubing with transverse seals at both ends. The tubing is made of low density polyethylene, 250 microns thick. It prevents oxidation or contamination of ink stored therein, or evaporation of solvents from the ink, thus enabling the in-house recycling of surplus printers' ink. Sealing to the required length may be done on a standard impulse sealer.

Description

DESCRIPTION:
This invention relates to sealable polythenelbags for the in-house recycling of Printer's Ink.
Design of the product allows for the ease of use and quick application at an economical price.
The wastage of printing ink in small to medium Print shops is recognised to be in the region of 60 to 80 percent of the ink mixed. The main problems of storage have in the past been the oxidisation and contamination of the ink as well as the evaporation of solvents making the reuse of the ink impractical and not advised.
The tubing is made of Low Density Polythene 250 microns thick, with a measurement on the flat of approximately 75mm, (Fig 1,) which is impervious to the solvents contained in all types of printers ink.
The sealer is a standard impulse sealer (Fig 3,) giving a Smm seal (Fig 2,) across the width of the tubing. In order to seal the tube once the ink has been inserted is not possible if the surfaces to be sealed are contaminated with ink, therefore an aluminium filler (Fig 3,) is placed into the tube prior to filling with ink in order to keep the surfaces clean. The tube is then sealed again after displacing as much air as possible thereby completing the inkbag.
The ink is now in an inkbag which is sealed against contamination of the ink as well as preventing any skinning (oxidisation, evaporation of the solvents) of the ink allowing it to be used again with a minimal amount of waste.

CLAIMS::
1. INKBAG is a bag made from poiytheneltubing of variable width and length in which Printers Ink can be stored.
2. INKBAG is as claimed in Claim 1, with a thickness of polythenelvvariable from 250 microns to 350 microns.
3. INKBAG is as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2, which can be made by sealing the tubing on a standard impulse sealer to the required length.
4. INKBAG is as claimed in Claim 3 with a seal of up to 8 mm in width allowing a secure seal on the tubing.
5. INKBAG is as claimed in Claim 4, to be used primarily for the recycling of printers ink.
6. INKBAG is substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
