Abstract

A hazard warning or traffic control device 10 has a planar sign 16 or 18 and a cover 20 which itself either has a sign portion 32 which is adapted to receive a sign portion 32. There may be a cover 30 for the sign 32 and the cover 30 can be in sections 35, 36, 37 one or more of which can receive removable sign portions 38.

Description

HAZARD WARNING AND TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES THIS INVENTION relates to hazard warning and traffic control devices.
According to this invention a cover for a hazard warning or traffic control device is arranged for providing a sign portion.
The sign portion may be part of the cover. The sign portion may at least in part be removable.
The cover may have a further cover for the sign portion.
The further cover may be in sections and sign portions may be insertable into and removable from one or more of the sections.
There may be means for releasably fastening the cover to the device.
The cover may have a downward facing mouth for receiving all or part of the device.
The invention provides a cover for a hazard warning or traffic control device which provides, or is adapted to receive, a sign portion.
The invention includes a hazard warning or traffic control device having such a cover.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment with possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows a perspective view of a sign and cover.
A hazard warning or traffic control device 10 is in the form of a base 12 with spaced upwardly facing recesses 13, 14 which removably receive legs 15 which extend downwards from a generally planar sign member 16 carrying sign markings 17. The member 16 can have various shapes and can be part-circular as shown chaindotted at 18.
A cover 20 is provided for the sign member 16 or 18 and is of generally similar shape and formed from two flexible side sheets 21, 22 of plastics welded together at the periphery 23 and defining a lower mouth which can be placed over the sign member 18. A releasable fastener 24, e.g. a belt and buckle, is provided for holding the cover 20 to the member 18, the fastener 24 extending beneath the portion 18 at 25.
The fastener 24 may be releasably secured by a keyoperated padlock.
One or both opposite faces 26 on sheets 21, 22 of the cover 20 is provided with means for providing or receiving a sign. In the case shown, a transparent plastics sheet 30 is welded around its periphery 31 to the face 26 and may cover a sign 32 provided on the face 26. The sign 32 may be on the face 26 or on a sheet adhered to the face 26 so that the sign is part of the cover 20. The sheet 30 can be omitted so that the sign 32 is not covered by sheet 30.
The sheet 30 may be secured to the face 26 at other lines e.g. 33, 34 to provide sections or pockets 35, 36, 37 one or more of which may be open at one or both ends to allow the insertion and removal of a further sign 38, which may have a sign marking in a plastics sheet. For example, the sign 38 may be the name of a particular user or may be an indication such as "CLOSED".
Non-removable signs in pockets 35 or 36 or 37 may, for example, read "WE APOLOGISE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE" or "ROAD WORKS, TAKE CARE", other signs are possible.
The cover 30 provides a sign and this may be adjustable.
The shape of the cover 30 will normally correspond to the shape of sign member 16, 18 etc.

Claims (11)

1. A cover for a hazard warning or traffic control device arranged for providing a sign portion.
2. A cover as claimed in Claim 1, in which the sign portion is part of the cover.
3. A cover as claimed in Claim 1, in which at least part of the sign portion is removable from the cover.
4. A cover as claimed in any preceding claim, comprising a further cover for the sign portion.
5. A cover as claimed in Claim 4, in which the further cover is in sections and sign portions are insertable into and removable from one or more of the sections.
6. A cover as claimed in any preceding claim, comprising means for releasably fastening the cover to the device.
7. A cover as claimed in any preceding claim, having a downwardly facing mouth for receiving all or part of the device.
8. A cover for a hazard warning or traffic control device which provides, or is adapted to receive, a sign portion.
9. A cover for a hazard warning or traffic control device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
10. A cover as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 9 in which the cover is adapted to cover a sign member of the device.
11. A hazard warning or traffic control device having a cover as claimed in any preceding claim.
