Abstract
A post (10) for a barrier assembly has an upright tube (11) with upper and lower structures (13, 14) having recesses (22) for receipt of barrier planks (30) and two pairs of parallel sides (18,19,20 and 21) to provide flat faces to facilitate stacking. The tube 11 can be round or square, and an alternative embodiment has recesses 22 positioned centrally on the flat faces (Figure 2). The barrier planks have end caps (31) with shoulders (33) to engage with recesses (22). The end caps (31) may be flexible to allow movement or bending of the planks (30).
Description
BARRIER PiS AND ASSEMBLIES THIS INVENTION relates to barrier posts and assemblies.
According to this invention a post for a barrier has an upright, upper and lower structures on the upright providing recesses for receipt of barrier elements, said structures having two parallel faces for stacking or transport purposes.
The structures may have two pairs of parallel faces and can thus be stacked in two relative orientations.
The structures may be substantially square.
The recesses may be upwardly and laterally open.
The recesses may be shaped for cooperation with a barrier element to resist lateral movement of the barrier element.
The invention includes a barrier assembly having two such posts connected by a barrier element received in said recesses.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment with possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of part of a barrier system;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a modification;
and Fig. 3 shows a stack of barrier posts.
A barrier post assembly 10 for use in a barrier system comprises a circular section post 11 having a lower end 8 removably received in a base 12 and having upper and lower collars 13, 14, which are generally similar except that in collar 14 a cross wall 15 is apertured at 16 to receive the post 11.
The collars have a recess 17 for receiving the post and wall 15 in collar 13 rests on and covers the top of the post 11. The collars are secured to the post 11 for example by rivets or screws through wall 22b.
Each collar 13, 14 is moulded of plastics and is generally of square outer section providing flat outer surfaces 18, 19, 20, 21 forming two pairs of parallel surfaces enabling the posts to be stacked in two orientations.
At three corners there are respective slots or recesses 22 which are open at the top and side and are in part defined by portions 23 which extend upwards above wall 15. The recesses 22 have bottom walls 22a and at their inner ends are defined in part by wall surface 22b.
In use barrier planks 30 are removably receivable in the recesses 22. The planks have end caps 31 having enlargements 32 providing shoulders 33 on opposite sides of the plank. When the plank is located in the recess, the shoulders 33 engage behind portions 23 flanking the recess 22 to resist lateral movement of the plank out of the recess.
The lower collar 14 and associated plank or planks can be omitted.
When the unit of post 11 with collars 13, 14, is removed from the base, this unit can be readily stacked on and adjacent to similar units (Fig. 3) because the collars provide two pairs of flat parallel sides. This facilitates storage and transport.
A lug 9 may extend upwards from wall 15 for connection to the base of a lamp mounted on the wall 15.
The end cap may be flexible to permit up and down movement of the plank assembly in the recess 22 and also lateral bending of the plank relative to an end part of the end cap.
Fig. 2 shows a modification in which the collars are adapted for use with a substantially square section post; in this case the recess 17a is of generally square section corresponding to the section of the post.
The recesses 22 in this example are in the mid-points of the four flat sides, rather than at the corners, which can be quite rounded in this case.
The assembly of posts (Fig. 3) could be with posts 11 vertical.
The recesses 22 could have a closed periphery for lateral receipt of a barrier element.
Claims (6)
