Abstract
A leg rest 12 for a wheelchair 22 comprises a first end having clip means 14 adapted to engage a foot rest 20 of the wheelchair 22 and a second, opposite end 16 shaped to support a user's leg, wherein the leg rest 12 can also act as a tray, typically by resting across the arms of the wheelchair 22. Preferably, the leg rest 12 includes a strap 18 which may be secured to the wheelchair 22 so that the leg rest 12 may positioned accordingly.
Description
WHEELCHAIR LEG REST / TEA TRAY.
This invention relates to a wheelchair leg rest that simply converts to a tea tray.
After an operation on a leg or foot,it is necessary to keep the leg raised to prevent swelling and thrombosis.
Wheelchair leg rests exist in the form of a flat board secured under the seat of the patient with no support at the foot end, allowing it to spring.
According to the present invention, there is provided a leg rest tn the form of a rectangle positioned semi vertically, with clips at one end to fit over the front of a wheelchair foot rest unsecured.
The opposite end provides a curved support for the leg allowing the rectangle section to extend at each corner for support when used as a tea tray.
There is a retaining strap to guvern the angle of the leg rest.
On reaching ones destination, the leg rest can be released quickly. from the footrest and placed across the arms of a wheelchair to use as a tea tray whilst the leg can rest on any suitable stationary support i.e.chair,stool,etc.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure I shows the leg rest in perspective.
Figure 2 shows the leg rest in place on a wheelchair, side elevation.
Figure 3 shows the leg rest used as a tea tray on a wheelchair in perspective.
Referring to the drawing, The Wheelchair Leg Rest/
Tea Tray comprises of a rectangle I2 with secured clips 14 at one end,to fit over front of wheelchair footrest 20.
A curved leg support I6 set in at opposite end at a specific angle or adjustable.
A retaining strap I8, one end secured partway down the rectangle, the other end having means of securing to the frame of the wheelchair 22.
A raised corner on each end of the rectangle 24 will be necessary to compensate for the curviture of the arms on the wheelchair.
The weight of the patient's leg and the angle of the leg rest will keep the clips I4 in position.
