Abstract
A domestic ironing board in which is formed from an upper surface having perforations in it and a lower surface spaced apart from the upper surface and sealed to form a chamber, there being an opening in the chamber which can be attached to a domestic vacuum cleaner so that when material to be ironed is placed against the perforations and the vacuum cleaner turned on the material is sucked against the board, preferably there is a cloth cover held over the perforations on which the material to be ironed is placed.
Description
Domestic Vacum Assisted Ironing Board
The basic ironing board would have an upper and lower layer. The upper layer would be perforatred and of course covered with fabric. The lower layer would be some inches below and sealed to create a vacum chamber. There would have to be a vacum release mechanism, prefferably foot opperated to enable the use of both hands.
The vacum would be achieved by useing a domestic vacum cleaner or dedicated unit, which would be attached to the under-side of the ironing board with a twist lock & unlock attachment.
The Beniffits:
Some of the most difficult items to iron are : Jeans, Trousers, and especially pleated skirts, with a vacum assisted ironing board I invisage a great saving of time, plus an improved and more efficient ironing action.
The vacum would hold pleats in place and also draw heat and steam from the right through the garment.
Claims (14)
1. An ironing board comprising an upper surface adapted to be able to support material to be ironed and having a plurality of perforations forked in it and a lower surface spaced apart from the upper surface, the upper and lower surface being connected to form a chamber, there being a means to reduce pressure in the said chamber so that, when material is placed against the perforations and the pressure in the chamber reduced the material is urged against the upper surface.
2. An ironing board as claimed in claim 1 in which the means for reducing the pressure in the chamber is an orifice in the chamber attached to a connector which is able to be attached to a vacuum cleaner or other vacuum pump.
3. An ironing board as claimed in claim 1 or 2 in which the connector is pivotally mounted on the chamber so that it can be directed in a plurality of directions.
4. An ironing board as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3 in which there is a vacuum release means which is able to release a vacuum formed in the chamber.
5. An ironing board as claimed in claim 4 in which the vacuum release means is foot operated.
6. An ironing board as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 5 in which there are means to open and close at least some of the perforations.
7. An ironing board as claimed in claim 6 iii which the means to open and close the perforations comprises a plate slidably mounted on the board beneath the upper surface of the board which plate can be slid so as to partially block at least some of the perforaíions, there being levers mounted on either side of the board to operate said plate.
8. An ironing board as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 7 in which there are means adapted to pass steam through the perforations.
9. An ironing board as claimed in claim S in which the means to pass steam to the perforations is connectable to the means for reducing the pressure in the chamber whereby instead of tlie pressure being reduced in the chamber steam can be passed through at least sr,nic oflhe perli, rations.
10. An ironing board as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 9 in which there is a cloth cover which covers tlie perforations.
1 l An ironing board as claimed in claim 10 in which the cloth cover is attached to the board by means of a spring or the lilie wllich is attached to the cover and which can fit into a groove in the side of the chamber.
12. An ironing board as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 11 which is adapted to be placed on a supporting surface
13. An ironing board as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 11 which is attached to foldable legs which can support the board when the legs are in the open position and the legs can be folded substantially flat for storage.
14. An ironing board as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 13 in which at least the upper surface is made of moulded heat resistant plastics material.
1 5. An ironing board as claimed in claim 1 as hereinbefore described with referenze to the drawings.
