Description
A DISPLAY SYSTEM
This invention relates to a display system, e.g. a flower box, suitable for attachment to a vertical surface, said display system being suitable for supporting receptacles containing plant growing medium and plants.
Known display systems suitable for use as flower boxes suffer from the disadvantage that they are difficult to locate securely in place without external brackets and are expensive to manufacture with decorative front cover planes especially if of different materials.
According to the present invention there is provided a display system suitable for supporting at least one receptacle containing plant growing medium and plant(s), said display system being suitable for attachment to a substantially vertical surface, said display system being adapted to provide for the mounting of a front cover plane, said display system including a support plane, at least one strengthening plane and a plurality of suspensory and connecting planes, said support plane being disposed so that in use it is substantially horizontal and is provided with at least one strengthening plane coextensive with the longest dimension of the support plane, said strengthening plane(s) being substantially perpendicular to the said support plane the vertical dimension of said strengthening plane(s) being less than the vertical dimension of the said suspensory planes, in use said suspensory planes are joined to the support plane, said suspensory planes being disposed so that in use one suspensory plane is positioned at either end of the support plane the coexistent edge of the said support and suspensory planes being of the same dimension, said suspensory planes being provided with at least one connecting plane on both substantially vertical edges, said connecting planes being substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the said support plane. A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows, isometrically, the display system with the front cover plane not mounted.
Figure 2 shows, isometrically, the display system without the front cover plane to show level and drainage apertures.
Figure 3 shows, isometrically with the front cover plane mounted but part cut away for clarity, a further embodiment of the display system.
Figure 4 shows, isometrically without the front cover plane, a further embodiment of the display system using rectangular hollow section.
Figure 5 shows, isometrically with the front cover plane part cut away for clarity, a further embodiment ofthe display system with embossment ofthe planes.
Figure 6 shows in detail an embodiment of the display system with the corners of the connecting and strengthening planes made by cutting and bending. Further detail of the view A is shown on the left ofthe figure in plan and elevation.
Figure 7 shows in detail an embodiment of the display system with the corners of the connecting and strengthening planes made by folding and flattening dogears. Further detail of the view A is shown on the left of the figure in plan and elevation.
Figure 8 shows in detail a further embodiment of the display system with the corners of the connecting and strengthening planes made by cutting and bending. Further detail ofthe view A is shown on the left ofthe figure in plan and elevation.
Figure 9 shows in detail a further embodiment of the display system with the corners of the connecting and strengthening planes made by folding and flattening dogears.
Further detail ofthe view A is shown on the left ofthe figure in plan and elevation.
Referring to the drawing the display system comprises a support plane defined by the longitudinal member 1, at least one strengthening plane 6 and a plurality of suspensory planes 2, said suspensory planes being provided with connecting planes 3, 4. A front cover plane 5 may be mounted on the distal edges ofthe suspensory planes.
Apertures 7 may be provided in the connecting planes 3 and in the strengthening 6 or suspensory 2 plane which in use is coexistent with the surface on which the display system is mounted, said apertures being adapted so that in use said apertures cooperate with any fistener or projection provided on the vertical wall on which the said display system is mounted. These apertures may be in the form of keyhole slots so that the display system can be located by sliding over existing screws in the vertical surface.
Apertures 8 may be provided in the connecting planes 4 and in the strengthening plane 6 which if a front cover plane is mounted is coexistent with the front cover plane, said apertures being adapted so that in use said apertures co-operate with any fastener or projection provided on the front cover plate. These apertures may be in the form of keyhole slots so that the front cover plate, when provided with suitable projections e.g. screws, can be located by sliding it over the apertures.
An aperture 11, as shown in Fig 2, may be included in one or more of the substantially vertical planes 2,6, 4 to provide a maximum liquid level overflow in a liquid container that may be provided on the support plane 1.
An aperture 12, as shown in Fig 2, may be included in the support plane 1 to provide a drain for the liquid container that may be provided on the support plane 1.
The front cover plane which may be made of any suitable material(s) e.g. aluminium, polymer, ferro-cement, basketwork, terra cotta etc. may be mounted on the other parts of the display system by any suitable method e.g. threaded fasteners, projections and star washers, hooks, adhesive bonding etc. to the rest of the display system as shown in Fig 3.
The support plane 1, the suspensory planes 2, the strengthening planes 6, and the connecting planes 3, 4 may be provided by a channel section of any suitable material e.g. aluminium, steel, ferro-cement, polymer etc. made by any suitable method e.g.
rolling, folding, pressing, moulding, casting, extruding etc. as in Figs 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9 or by rectangular section of any suitable material e.g. aluminium, steel, plastic etc. made by any suitable method e.g. rolling, folding, extruding etc. as in Fig 4. The display system not including the front cover plane may be made from one length of channel that is formed by any suitable method e.g. cutting and folding, crimping and folding etc. into a U shape as shown in Figuresl,2,3,4,5.
At least one of the planes 1,2,3,4,5,6,may be provided with a non flat profile as shown in Fig 5 by any suitable means to provide extra strength or decoration.
As shown in Fig 6 the corners of the connecting planes 3,4 and the strengthening planes 6 may made by cutting and joggling the flap 14.
As shown in Fig 7 the comers of the connecting planes 3,4 and the strengthening planes 6 may made by folding and flattening the dogear 9.
As shown in Fig 8 the corners of the connecting planes 3,4 and the strengthening planes 6 may made by cutting and bending. The mitred corner may be strengthened by welding the join 10 or by adhesive bonding a strengthening plane across the join 10.
As shown in Fig 9 the comers of the connecting planes 3,4 and the strengthening planes 6 may made by folding and flattening the dogear 14.
