Abstract
A lawn edge cutter comprises a hollow rectangular cutting member defining spaced parallel twin blades. The member is fitted to the bottom of a box and aligned with a slot therein, and the box carries an upright handle. In use, the tool is driven vertically down into the lawn edge. A slice of earth is cut and retained between the blades, and subsequent cuts will feed the slices into the box through the slot. The cutting member is tapered inside and out, the larger aperture being at the top so as to assist retention of the slices between the blades.
Description
TITLE
TWIN BLADE LAWN EDGE CUTTER
The cutter consists of three basic components. A box which is open at the top, a hollow rectangular tine which is fitted to the bottom of the box, which lines up with the slot in the bottom of the box and a handle attached to the box.
The principle of the operation is to place the tine adjacent to the footpath edge and to press on the top of the box with a foot pushing the rectangular tine into the lawn edge.
Slices of lawn edge, roots and soil will be cut between the two blades, the next cut will feed the slices of earth into the box, this is continued until the box needs emptying.
The tine is tapered both inside and out, the largest aperture is adjacent to the box bottom and because of this taper the slice of earth is pulled out with the tool.
Claims (8)
- An unsprung twin blade lawn edge cutter.a) An open top box with outwardly disposed flanges at the rim of the box.b) A handle secured to and extending upwardly from the box.c) A hollow rectangular tine attached to the base of the box and directed downwardly. The tine having an upwardly increasing taper both internally and externally. All arranged so that the user, by holding the handle and pressing the cutter downwards with the foot on top of the box, the tine enters the lawn edge adjacent to the footpath to cut the lawn edge and remove a slice of earth, which moves upwardly in the tine with repeated use to enter the box through the open end of the tine.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows 1. A lawn edge cutter comprising an open topped container, a handle attached to the container and a hollow tine attached to the base of the container.
- 2. A cutter as claimed in claim 1 in which the container includes at least one pair of opposed tapered faces.
- 3. A cutter as claimed in claim 1 in which the open topped container is provided with surfaces for the application of foot pressure.
- 4. A cutter as claimed in claim 1 in which the tine is rectangular in shape.
- 5. A cutter as claimed in claim 1 in which the hollow tine is provided with at least one pair of opposed tapered faces.
- 6. A cutter as claimed in claim 1 in which the tine is provided with two pairs of opposed tapering faces.
- 7. A cutter as claimed in claim 1 in which the tine is provided with sharpened cutting edges.
- 8. A cutter as claimed in claim 1 in which the tine is provided with pointed or curved cutting edges.
