Abstract
A lightweight and compact device is disclosed, for towing one or more motorcycles behind a car 13 with the motorcycle front wheel 15 steering, and its back wheel 17 rotating. If more than one motorcycle is carried, they may be separated by a spacing bar (not shown in figures). Fig. 4 shows a cradle 11 with additional pivot 18. Alternatively, a motorcycle may be carried entirely on the cradle, transversely across the car (fig. 9); fig. 5 shows a vice 31 used to grip the cycle forks 35 in this embodiment. A cantilever apparatus may be used to assist in lifting and lowering motorcycles onto and off the carrier, with lower frame 54 hinged to upper frame 52. A bar (59, fig. 7) is attached to point 55 to swing point 56 on frame 54 up to attachment point 51, as shown in figure 8.
Description
2316920 Motor-cycle Carriacre Device The present invention is hereby
concerned with the carriage of cycles and the like, however, the system can be utilised for other carriage. Usually Motor-Cycles are loaded upon a wheeled trailer or carried in a van or pick up truck, the trailers are bulky and are quite a piece of tackle. Therefore I have undertaken to utilise a vehicle to accommodate a facility for carriage that allows a lifting device to load thereto, also whereby the swivel actions and suspensions of a cycle can be utilised within its function. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a normal tow bar is f itted with a catchment to receive a normal ball catch that you can secure the facility for carriage, and/or with a box cradle to receive and suspend one end of a motor cycle that can be secured therein and allow the motor cycle to be towed within its own axis and suspension. The unitary formation may be of any suitable material such as steel or alloy. Steel is preferred for its strength.
Preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, of which:- Fig 1. is a schematic view of the embodiment of a ball catch and receiving location and the towing facility that will fix thereto.
Fig 2. is a schematic view of the receiver and facility combined.
Fig 3. is a schematic view of a car with a tow hitch and the facility combined attached in place with a motorcycle secured into the front cradle of the towing facility for tow. Alternatively the motorcycle could be mounted rearward or placed completely upon the cradle adjacent to the back of the car and carried thereon.
Fig 4. is a schematic view of a hitch facility, whereby the rotation is advanced over the cycle forks whereby the frame will rotate on its own swivel pin given more turning ability when cornering.
Fig 5. is a schematic transverse view of a facility with a double wheel cradle and double plate swivel location for a fully suspended cycle in a fixed position that is sideways adjacent to the back of the towing vehicle, alternatively this type of support would in longitudinal positions outwardly from the back of a car, allow two cycles to be towed or would allow other carriage.
Fig 6. is a schematic side view of a facility that allows a cycle to be cantilever jacked into its suspended mode for carriage.
Fig 7. is a schematic back view of a facility showing the cycle ready for loading.
Fig 8. is a schematic back view of the cycle loaded.
Fig 9. the facility fixed to a car with the cycle loaded.
1 Referring to Fig 1 a normal ball hitch 4 is secured by bolt 5 whereby catchment bar 6 is also secured by bolt 5 whereby hole 7 will locate with hole 10 when ball catch 8 and box section 9 is placed over ball 4 whereby a bolt is inserted through hole 10 through 7 to secure and/with ball 4 in a vertical pain whereby cradle 11 would receive a part of the motorcycle to secure and suspend therein. Alternatively the cradle 11 could be located in a lengthwise situation whereby the motor-cycle could be carried thereon rather than being towed.' Referring to Fig 2. likewise, (Fig 1) 12 is the bolt that secures and/with the ball hitch.
Referring to Fig 3. likewise, 13 is a car whereby the facility is shown fixed at 14 whereby wheel 15 is secured into the cradle whereby the motorcycle is towed using its own swivel action and suspension at 16 for turning and own wheel rotation and suspension 17.
Referring to Fig 4. Likewise, (Fig 1 to 3) ball hitch 4 is bolted with cleat 20 via bolt 5 and nut 22 whereby the cradle 11 is secured by 18 through plate 19 and cleat 20 and secured via welded on bolt 21, the cradle 11 can rotate around bolt 18 while being secured there, one end of the cycle is then placed into the cradle area, and secured therein, whereby facility bar or strap or rope 25 is fixed to the cradle and the cycle to suspend the cycle through to the rotation area.
Referring to fig 5. A cleat 20 is fixed via bolt 5 then a double facility with double plates 19 are fixed with cleat 20 via bolt 18 whereby wheels 15/32 are connected to hubs 36 with forks 35 of a cycle placed into cradle 11 the movable plates of vice 31 allowing for width is then moved in via stud hand-wheels placed into threaded hole 37 through bar 29 to clamp and secure wheels 15/32 a tether is then fixed on plate 33 at location 34 within its axis and tied back to the forks and frame to secure therein.
Referring to Fig 6. a frame 52 is extended from the hitch area with brace 53 whereby a cradle 54 is hinged to 52 to rotate into fixing point 51.
Referring to Fig 7. a cycle 58 is stood adjacent to frame 52 as (fig 6) whereby a stand bar 59 is located with tube 55 as (fig 6) the cradle 54 as (fig 6) is cantilever rotated lifting the cycle 58 to slide up frame 52 as (Fig 6) whereby stand bar 59 controls and holds the cycle at the given height in readiness to secure with hole 51 to 56 as (Fig 8). The cycle would be lowered in the reverse actions.
Referring to Fig 8. likewise, shows the cradle in its fixed mode secured at 51 and 56 whereby the stand bar 59 holds it at the given elevated height, alternatively a lift winch could be fitted to lift the cycle on a movable cradle to the given height.
Referring to Fig 9. shows the cycle loaded.

Claims (9)
1. A frame, that facilitates fixing to a vehicle, tow bar, hitch singularly or simultaneously in a locked position which allows a fixed or removable cradle adjustable thereto that allows controlled jacking or lifting to an elevated position and controlled lowering therefrom, that can utilise the transit abilities of the towed object.
2. A frame according to claim 1, that facilitates a locked fixed position upon a vehicle.
3. A frame according to claim 1 and 2, that utilises the transit abilities of its towed object/cycle within its function.
4. A frame according to claim 1 to 3, that allows fixing/tethering within its axis.
5. A frame according to claims 1 to 4, that allows a number of motorcycles to be carried or towed.
6. A frame according to claim 1 to 5 when more than one cycle is towed will allow a spacing bar to be fitted between the cycles to stop them colliding. (not shown)
7. A frame according to Claims 1 to 6 that allows a fixed or removable or adjustable cradle to be controllable lifted in stages to any position.
8. A frame according to claims 1 to 7 that allows a fixed or removable or adjustable cradle to be controllable lowered to any position.
9. A frame according to claims 1 to 8 that is adjustable.
