Abstract
231,683. British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd., (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Oct. 5, 1923. Eyelets; fastenings.-The entering ends of the barrels of eyelets and barrelled fasteners are scalloped or blunted and scored so that when used in invisible or blind eyeleting with their barrelled ends clenched between layers of the work, as shown in Fig. 6, they will push the upper layer 114 of leather past the shoulder of the setting tool 112. The eyelet shown In Fig. 1 is produced by first pressing ordinary eyelets 132, Fig. 10, between dies 124, 134 to form simultaneously the scalloping 104 and scoring 106 of the barrel, and afterwards setting back the entering ends of the barrels between dies 144, 152, Fig. 13. If desired this latter step may be ornitted, the finished eyelet being as shown in Fig. 4. Alternatively, the eyelets produced by the usual drawing out method are pressed between dies 176, 182, Fig. 19, to bend in the end of the barrel to form an annulus 154. Specifications 2333/80, 14009/05, and 205,106, [all in Class 43, Fastenings, Dress], are referred to.
