Abstract

A hinging bolt has two plates 1, 2 which when fixed onto surfaces and brought together form a bolt and optional hinge. The sliding bolt 7 can be secured when required as a hinge and used as a detachable bolt when necessary. Once fixed the hinging bolt can be released to allow two surfaces to be freed and become unattached from each other. A stop 5 retains the bolt 7 on the plate 1 and the end of the engaged bolt can locate between formations 6 to hold the bolt against axial movement.

Description

HINGING BOLT Bolts are used on many gates, doors and boxes to secure closing and prevent unauthorised entry to premises. The bolt is usually made in two parts, the sliding bolt and the receptor.
However, it is not unknown for gates with bolts to spring open in strong winds or for doors to be forced open by pressure from outside. Bolts can not be used for any other purpose once fixed in position.
According to the invention there is provided a hinging bolt comprising a sliding bolt plate, a receptor plate, a means of stopping the bolt and a means of securing the bolt when the bolt is used as a hinge.
There follows a description of the invention detailed with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows the sliding bolt plate; Figure 2 shows the receptor plate; and Figure 3 shows the hinging bolt in the closed position.
Referring to the drawing on page 5 the hinging bolt comprises a sliding bolt plate Fig 1 and a receptor plate Fig 2 secured together in the closed position Fig 3 by a sliding bolt 7.
In order to use the hinging bolt, the plates Fig 1 & Fig 2 should be secured to the edges of the two surfaces to be closed. The two surfaces are then brought together as in Fig 3 and the sliding bolt 7 is dropped down into the hoops 4.
The handle of the sliding bolt 7 should be secured in the facility 6 by means of a padlock or similar, this allows the device to be used as a hinge and a bolt.
To release the hinging bolt the sliding bolt 7 is lifted and placed in the bolt guide 3 allowing the plates Fig 1 & Fig 2 to be free.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS 1 A hinging bolt comprising a sliding bolt plate, a receptor plate, a means of stopping the bolt and a means of securing the bolt when the bolt is mounted as a hinge.
    2 A hinging bolt as claimed in Claim 1 wherein guide means are provided to control the sliding movement of the bolt.
    3 A hinging bolt as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein provision is made for arrestment of the sliding bolt.
    5 A hinging bolt as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the receptor plate is provided with a securing facility.
    6 A hinging bolt as described herein with reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawing.
