Abstract

An envelope 1 adapted to take the products of Advanced Photo System film processing comprises two parts; i) an envelope with a folded bag portion 2 and a fold down cover 3; and ii) an insert 10 with a cuboid mounting 5 to retain a film cartridge. The insert 10 when placed in the bag portion 2 interlocks with an aperture 4 in the cover and a recess 9 in the bag portion. The mounting 5 is formed from an extension to the insert 10 by folding and then gluing a portion 11 to the main part of the insert 10. The mounting 5 has retention means 13-16 to hold a film cartridge. The insert 10 can be printed and used as a repeat order form.

Description

Packing Envelope for Photographic Material The invention relates to a packing envelope for photographic material to be supplied to customers, comprising a film cartridge, a printed view of the photos on the film, and paper prints, possibly of varying format, the prints being disposed in a folded bag which is covered by a fold-down cover overlapping the latter, and the film cartridge being lodged in a mounting produced by punching and folding.
Packing envelopes of the generic type are used for photographic products distributed under the designation "Advanced Photo System". A peculiarity of this system resides in that the customer does not receive strips or rolls of negatives after the film has been developed, but that the strips of negatives are kept and returned in the original film cartridge. Furthermore, the customer receives a printed view of all the pictures on the film in the form of a card, the individual pictures being numbered so that they may be identified more easily for repeat orders. Such a card is usually designated as an index print. Finally, another innovation resides in the fact that the person photographing has the possibility, while taking the picture, to determine a certain format, for example even an extremely long format, this determined format being stored and the picture, upon development and production of the print, then having the determined format.
Conventionally, the strips of film as well as the prints are returned to the customer in a folded envelope after execution of the development order.
For corresponding packing envelopes for APS products to be put into practice, it has been known to attach an additional sheet to the folded bag, in particular to the latter's cover, this sheet on the one hand bearing a printed form for repeat orders, and perforations and punched holes applied thereto on the other hand ensuring that a mounting for the film cartridge can be folded. All these known constructions have the drawback that the envelopes are difficult to handle when filled by the laboratory, the handling in particular not being suitable for automation, and that the product handed over to the consumer is not satisfying optically and in terms of handling.
It is the object of the invention to embody a packing envelope of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that cost-effective producibility is accompanied with simple handling, capable of being automated, by the laboratory and that a clearly arranged packing envelope of esthetic appearance is returned to the consumer, it being in particular desirable that reliable correspondence between the film cartridge and the index print is ensured.
According to the invention, this object is attained by the paperboard mounting of the film-cartridge being a folded appendix to a repeat order card which is disposed in the folded bag for the paper prints, the fold-down cover having a punched hole which fits over the film-cartridge mounting when the fold-down cover is closed.
This helps attain a rather attractive design and an optimal solution of the combined mounting for the film cartridge and the repeat order form.
In keeping with another embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that with the fold-down cover closed, the film-cartridge mounting is displaceable in such a way that it reaches over the edge of the punched hole of the fold-down cover, thus locking the fold-down cover in relation to the bag. This prevents the cover from being able to open and the contents, in particular the pictures, from falling out inadvertently.
By advantage the mounting for the film cartridge is constituted by a glued appendix to the repeat order card which is folded to form a cuboid member.
This appendix is integral with the repeat order form. The mounting is folded and preformed by a second tool so as to unfold when forces are exerted from two opposed edges, forming the cuboid mounting member.
In keeping with another embodiment, an incision and an inward folding can be provided in the vicinity of a lower edge of the cuboid member for a support to form downwards for the inserted film cartridge. This prevents the film cartridge from falling out downwards.
Similarly, a punched hole can be provided on the topside of the cuboid member, forming a tongue which, when pressed inwards, helps to implement locking of the inserted cartridge upwards.
Details of the invention will become apparent from the ensuing description of a preferred embodiment, taken in conjunction with the drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of a closed packing envelope according to the inven tion, Fig. 2 is a plan view of the packing envelope in an opened condition, and Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic section through the left edge portion of Fig. 1.
A packing envelope 1 seen in the drawing comprises a folded bag 2 and a fold-down cover 3. The fold-down cover 3 has punched hole 4 for a mounting 5 of a film cartridge (not shown).
The folded bag 2 comprises a back 6 and a front 7, a fold 8 of which is glued to the back. The front 7 also has a rectangular punched hole 9, the contour of which corresponds to the underside of the mounting 5 for the film cartridge.
A report order form 10 is inserted in the folded bag 2, having a strip joined on which, when folded, forms the cuboid mounting 5 and is connected with the repeat order form 10 by an adherent fold 11.
A rectangular incision 12 is provided on the mounting 5 so that the front 13 can be forced inwards, downwards forming a stop for the film cartridge.
Another punched hole 14 with an impression 15 is provided on the topside of the mounting 5, it being possible to push a tongue 16 thus formed inwards for the film cartridge to be locked upwards.
As is apparent from the foregoing, the mounting 5 together with the repeat order form 10 is virtually displaceably lodged in the bag 2. When the left side of the bag is forced downwards in the direction of the arrow 17, it will be possible, by the mounting 5 being lifted slightly in the direction of the arrow 18, to move it together with the repeat order form 10 to the left in the direction of the arrow 19 so that the underside 20 of the mounting rests on the topside 21 of the fold-down cover 3, preventing the latter from being opened. Consequently, it is possible to implement a kind of a lock, the front edge 22 forming a stop for the locking motion in the direction of the arrow 19.
