Abstract

The support comprises means to retain the hose and means to space the retaining means from a support surface. One support has a hollow tube 2B open at one end and a shoulder 2C at its other end, an access slot running the length of the tube 2B across the top thereof. The tube 2B is attached to a support shaft 2E which can be inserted into the ground. A garden hose can be passed through the top slot in the tube 2B whereby a hose jet connector 2D can locate in the tube 2B, being prevented from being drawn out of the latter by the shoulder 2C. The tube can be fixed or adjustable on the shaft 2E and can have a hook for retaining on a hanging basket. Alternative supports have shafts supporting a plug-in connector between the hose and jet or a sleeve with a tapered bore for the jet nozzle or a rear loop for the hose and a forward jet cradle.

Description

A HOSE SPRAY SUPPORT DEVICE This invention relates to apparatus for use with a garden hose, particularly for enabling a user of the hose to use the latter without the need of holding the hose.
According to the present invention there is provided apparatus for use with a garden hose, the apparatus comprising means for releasably retaining a part of a garden hose, and means for locating the hose retaining means in a spaced relation to a support location.
Preferably the locating means comprises a shaft on one end of which is mounted the hose retaining means and the other end of which provides the support. Said other end of the shaft may be pointed for insertion into the ground.
The hose retaining means may be fixedly mounted on said one end of the shaft, or may be adjustably mounted on said one end of the shaft, or may be detachably connected to the locating means.
The hose retaining means may comprise a cradle which is profiled to complement said part of the garden hose. The cradle may be profiled to complement an end nozzle of a garden hose, and may be provided with an end part adapted to retain the nozzle in the cradle irrespective of the pressure of water in the hose. The cradle may be of substantially tubular form with a longitudinally extending slot therein which enables the passage of a garden hose thereinto.
Alternatively, the hose retaining means may comprise a fitment which is a component part of a nozzle of a garden hose, whereby other component parts of the nozzle may be .2.
mounted at respective ends of the hose retaining component part.
Further, the hose retaining means may comprise a component into which a nozzle of a garden hose is a push-fit.
The hose retaining means may be provided with an external mounting whereby the apparatus can removably connect to a hanging basket.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings or illustrations.
Illustration 1 The invention is shown supporting a garden hose spray on a shaft retained in the ground.
Thejet direction can be achieved by the angle the support shaft is inserted into the ground (la), or by having an adjustable joint where the shaft joins the supporting system (lob).
The device can also have a hook facility to enable the user to water hanging baskets (inc).
This system could also be used for the support of a hose pipe over fragile plants (led) There are various methods devised for connecting the hose jet to a shaft.
Illustration 2.
.3.
A tube that has an internal diameter (2a) that will retain most proprietary hose and hose connecting systems (2d). The tube has an access slot running the length of the cylinder (2b). This slot is wide enough to accept all standard garden hose pipes.
At one end of the tube is a shoulder (2c) that retains the hose jet assembly (2d). This cylinder is attached to a support shaft (2e). It is also envisaged that this assembly could have a small hook (2f) that enables the system to be used for the watering of hanging baskets, see illustration (inc).
This device could also be used for the support of a hose pipe over fragile plants (ld).
Illustration 3.
A modified hose jet (3a) that incorporates a built in shaft (3b). This hose jet could be made such that it connects to proprietary hose connection system, or in its simplest form incorporates a hose clamp for connection to a standard hose pipe.
Illustration 4.
A plug in hose connector (4a) that complies with propriorty systems, that incorporates a shaft (4b).
This could be in the form of an integral moulding (4c) or a detatachable shaft that locates into a moulded socket in the connector (4d). This shaft would need a bar at 90 that acts as a stop, and also facilitates ease of removable from the ground (4e).
.4.
Illustration 5.
A cylindrical tube with a tapered throat (5a), that standard hose jet (5b) is located and forms a frication fit This throat could be in moulded plastic and have small fins (Sc) that adjust to various hose jet diameters. This assembly is fitted to a shaft (5d).
Illustration 6.
A shaft (6b) with a spiralled loop (6a) that retains a standard hose pipe, attached to this is a support arm that the hose jet rests on (6c). The hose pipe is located in the spiralled loop (6a) by a simple twisting action. This unit can also be used as a hose pipe support.
See illustration (led).
Illustration 7.
This device has a locating hole that a standard jet is inserted into (7a) and a spring clip for holding the hose pipe (7b). These are attached to a shaft (7c).
Illustration 8.
Shows a modified hose connector and hose jet that captures a simple ring on a shaft (8a).
The ring (8a) is incerted as hose connector (8c) is coupled to a hose jet (8b). Tolerence between the fit of (Sb) and (8c) allows for the support ring (8a) to fit.
