Abstract

A pendant which is in the form of a locket (6) formed from precious metal comprises a central part (8) in the form of a heart, support members (10, 12) in the form of a pair of hands, and an upwardly extending structure (14), located between the hands (10,12), in the form of a crown. The locket is formed from two parts produced by pressing operations, one part providing the front side (8 a ) of the central part, the other part forming the other side (8 b ) of the central part, and the formations (10, 12) and (14). The two parts are then secured together by a pivot (16), a clasp fastener being provided in conventional manner.

Description

Title: Improvements Relating to Pendants Description of Invention This invention is concerned with improvements relating to pendants, and has been devised particularly but not exclusively for a locket.
According to this invention there is provided a pendant comprising a central part in the shape of a heart, and supporting members to which the central part is secured, the supporting members being shaped to represent hands.
By the term "shape of a heart" as used herein, we mean the stylised heart-shape, rather than the actual shape of a human heart, and by the phrase "hands" we mean human hands albeit in stylised form.
The appearance of the pendant may thus be one in which the heart-shaped central part of the pendant is held in or by or between a pair of hands. The hands may be located above the central part, so that the central part in use extends downwardly from the supporting members, or may be arranged in any other desired fashion, such as the heart being held between, eg cupped by the hands.
Preferably the supporting members comprise means for the attachment thereto of the ends of a chain, whereby the pendant may be hung around the wearer's neck.
Preferably the pendant is in the form of a locket. Preferably the central part of the pendant comprises two sides hingedly mounted together, fastening means being provided to secure the two sides together, and preferably one side of the locket and supporting members are cast or pressed in one piece.
Preferably the locket comprises an upwardly extending structure in the form of a crown, preferably located generally centrally of the central part, preferably generally mid-way between the two supporting members.
Preferably the upwardly extending structure is cast or pressed so as to be integral with part at least of the central part of the pendant.
According to this invention there is also provided a locket provided by a sheet of metal pressed so as to provide a part in the shape of a heart, two parts in the shape of a pair of hands, and a part in the shape of a crown, said four parts being integral.
There will now be given a detailed description, to be read with reference to the accompanying drawings, of a pendant which is a preferred embodiment of this invention having been selected for the purposes of iliustrating the invention by way of example.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a front view of the preferred embodiment; Figure 2 is a rear view; and Figure 3 is a view taken in the direction the arrow A of figure 1.
The pendant which is the preferred embodiment of this invention is in the form of a locket 6 formed from precious metal such as gold, comprising a central part 8 in the form of a heart, support member 10, 12 in the form of a pair of hands, and an upwardlyextending structure 14, located between the hands 10 and 12, in the form of a crown.
Preferably the locket is formed by pressing operations, and conveniently one pressing operation is carried to provide the front side 8a of the central part 8, the other side 8b also being formed as a pressing, said second part being formed to provide the formations 10,12 and 14 integrally with the part 8b. The part 8b is then secured to the part 8a by a pivot mechanism 16, a clasp fastener 18 being provided on the side of the locket opposite the pivot in conventional manner.
The supporting members 12 and 10, in addition to appearing to "carry" the heartshaped central part 8, comprises means 24 by which a chain 20 may be secured thereto, whereby the locket may be hung around the wearer's neck.
Preferably small gaps 11, 13 are provided between the supporting members 10, 12 so as to provide the appearance of the supporting members 10, 12 being separate from the central part 8. If desired a similar gap may be provided between the central part 8 and the crown-shaped structure 14.
