Abstract
231,384. Bowen, R. H. Sept. 3, 1924.. Hangers. - A sheet-metal shaft-hanger comprises two hollow legs 2 each formed from a single metal sheet, the legs being connected by a two ply web 21 that extends down the legs 2 to stiffen the same above and below the transverse web portion 5 carrying the upper bearing support 7. The web 21 is attached to the legs above and below the side bearing supports 9 by rivets 22 passing through flanges 23 on the legs, and by rivetted over tongues 21<x>, 21y. The web plies may be welded to each other and to the legs, and they are separated locally to accommodate the bearing supports 7, 9. To prevent rotation of the adjusting nut 10 of the upper support 7 the former has a channel 37 engaging the separated parts 32 of the leg flanges 23. The web 21 and leg flanges 23 are embossed at 38, 39 respectively. The yolk 6 carrying the lower bearing support 8 is of circular cross-section and has an aperture 45 engaging and locking the adjusting nut 11 of the lower support 8 and ears 41 for attachment to the flatted leg bottoms 42. Each leg 2 has a rectangular foot secured thereon by expanding and bv rivets 52. The feet have tapered ridges 55 and bosses 53 with bolt holes 54, and are covered by thin sheet metal plates 56.
