Abstract

A method for registering and searching for dial information in a memory of a communication terminal apparatus is disclosed. The dial information is entered through a key input part of the apparatus and registered in memory. Then, the dial information registered in the memory is sorted in order of last dialling. Part or all of a keyword of a desired dial information is entered through the key input part, when a search key is operated on the key input part. All of the dial information including the said keyword among the registered dial information are searched out and displayed. Then the desired dial information among the displayed dial information is selected by operation of a dial key on the key input part and dialled.

Description

REGISTERING DIAL INFORMATION The present invention relates to a communication terminal apparatus and to a method of storing dial information and searching the stored dial information in the communication terminal apparatus.
In general, communication terminal apparatus are wire and wireless telephones or facsimiles which are utilized in a wire or wireless telephone system. Usually the communication terminal apparatus is provided with an additional function such as a one touch dialling function and a short dialling function. Generally, a plurality of sets of dial information are stored in the memory.
A conventional method for storing and searching the dial information involves storing each of a plurality of sets of dial information in the memory in response to a one touch dialling key or a short dialling key. To search for a desired stored dialling information, a search key is pressed and then the stored dial information is sequentially displayed and scrolled through using an up or down key. Here, "dial information" means alphanumeric information such as a telephone number and a name, which is stored in correspondence with the one touch dialling key or the short dialling key.
There are problems with this conventional method in that a plurality of sets of dial information corresponding to the one touch dialling key or the short dialling key must be registered, and the registered dial information should respectively be checked in the communication terminal apparatus, thereby making the key operation inconveniently complicated.
Also, there has been another problem in the conventional method in that identical dial information may be repeatedly registered in the memory when the user cannot remember all of the dial information stored in the communication terminal apparatus, thereby reducing the degree of efficiency of a limited capacity memory.
Furthermore, there has been yet another problem in the conventional method in that when a plurality of sets of dial information are stored, the search key is pressed for searching for a desired one of the stored dial information, and then the sequential search from the beginning of the stored dial information has to be performed by pressing an up or down key, thereby resulting in unnecessary time consumption.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide an improved method of registering dial information.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved method for searching registered dial information.
In order to accomplish the above objects, the present invention provides a method for registering dial information in a memory of a communication terminal apparatus comprising: receiving the dial information through a key input part of the apparatus and registering the dial information in the memory; and sorting the dial information registered in the memory in order of last dialling.
The present invention also provides a method for registering and searching for dial information in a memory of a communication terminal apparatus comprising: receiving the dial information through a key input part of the apparatus and registering the dial information in the memory; sorting the dial information registered in the memory in order of last dialling; receiving a part or all of a keyword of a desired dial information through the key input part, when a search key is operated on the key input part; searching for and displaying all of the dial information including the said keyword among the registered dial information; and awaiting the selection of the desired dial information among the displayed dial information and dialling the selected dial information.
Sorting the dial information may comprise: setting a predetermined dial counter value to represent the dial information input at the time of dialling; and re-sorting the dial information with reference to the dial counter value.
The method may further comprise deleting sorted dial information which has not been redialled within a predetermined number of diallings. For example, the method may comprise: counting the number of diallings; and deleting dial information which has not been redialled, once the count reaches the said predetermined number.
The present invention also provides a method of searching for desired dial information in a communication terminal apparatus having a memory in which dial information is sequentially registered, comprising: receiving a part or all of a keyword of the desired dial information through a key input part, when a search key is operated on the key input part; searching for and displaying all of the dial information including the said keyword among the registered dial information; and awaiting the selection of the desired dial information among the displayed dial information and dialling the selected dial information.
The said selection may be carried out by operation of a dialling key at the time the desired dial information is displayed. The keyword may be numeric.
Another aspect of the present invention provides a communication terminal apparatus comprising: a memory; a key input part; and control means adapted: to receive dial information through the key input part and register the dial information in the memory; and to sort the dial information registered in the memory in order of last dialling.
The invention also provides communication terminal apparatus comprising: a memory; a display; a key input part; and control means adapted: to receive dial information through the key input part and register the dial information in the memory; and to sort the dial information registered in the memory in order of last dialling; to receive a part or all of a keyword of a desired dial information through the key input part, when a search key is operated on the key input part; to search for and display in the display all of the dial information including the said keyword among the registered dial information; and to await the selection of a desired dial information among the displayed dial information and to dial the selection dial information.
The control means may be adapted: to set a predetermined dial counter value to represent the dial information input at the time of dialling; and to re-sorting the dial information with reference to the dial counter value.
The control means id preferably be adapted to delete sorted dial information which has not been redialled within a predetermined number of diallings. For example, the control means may be adapted: to count the number of diallings; and to delete dial information which has not been redialled, once the count reaches the said predetermined number.
The present invention also provides communication terminal apparatus comprising: a memory in which dial information is sequentially registered; a display; a key input part; and control means adapted: to receive a part or all of a keyword of the desired dial information through the key input part, when a search key is operated on the key input part; to search for and display on the display all of the dial information including the said keyword among the registered dial information; and to await the selection of the desired dial information among the displayed dial information and to dial the selected dial information.
The apparatus may further include a dialling key by means of which the said selection may be made at the time the desired dial information is displayed.
Finally, the present invention extends to communication terminal apparatus adapted to operate according to the method of the invention.

Fig.l is a block diagram illustrating a schematic construction of a communication terminal apparatus according to the present invention. The communication terminal apparatus according to the present invention, comprises: a key inputting part 10 having keys for inputting dial information and keywords, a search key, and keys for performing several different functions; a controller 11 which receives and automatically registers the dial information received from the key inputting part 10 in a memory 12 and then searches for a desired one of the registered dial information; the memory 12 for registering the dial information received through the key inputting part 10 and storing a control program; a displaying part 13 for displaying the dial information under the control of the controller 11; and a dialling part 15 for dialling the desired dial information under the control of the controller 11.
Fig.2 is a flow chart illustrating a procedure for registering the dial information in the memory according to the present invention. The procedure comprises the steps of: receiving and storing the dial information in a dial buffer at the time of dialling; registering the dial information stored in the dial buffer in the memory; sorting the dial information registered in the memory in order of last dialling; and deleting dial information which has not been redialled within a predetermined number of diallings.
Fig.3 is a view illustrating a memory map for the dial information according to the present invention. The memory map for registering the dial information in the memory consists of a dial information storing area Dial(n) (total 4000 bytes) for registering data corresponding to each digit of the dial information, and an area (total 200 bytes) for registering a counter value of the dial information.
Fig.4 is a flow chart illustrating a procedure for searching the registered dial information according to the present invention, comprising the steps of: sorting the dial information registered in the memory in order of last dialling, when a search key is operated in the key inputting part; receiving a part or all of the keyword of the desired dial information through the key inputting part and then storing the keyword in the dial buffer; searching and displaying the dial information including the keyword information stored in the dial buffer, among the dial information registered in the memory; and dialling the selected one of the displayed dial information.
Referring to Figs.l to 4, an embodiment of the present invention will now be described in detail.
An operation for storing and deleting the inputted dial information will be described in detail with reference to Fig.2.
The controller 11 checks the switchhook state as shown in step 201, and if it is an off-hook state, step 202 is carried out. In the step 202, the controller 11 receives the dial information through the key inputting part 10 and then carries out step 203. In the step 203, the controller 11 checks the switchhook state, and if it is not the off hook state, step 204 is carried out. Otherwise, step 202 is carried out to receive the dialling key. In the step 204, the controller 11 stores the dial information received through the key inputting part 10 in the dial buffer and then carries out step 205. In the step 205, the controller 11 clears an index register value n to 0 and performs step 206. In the step 206, the controller 11 performs step 221 in the case that the dial information storing area Dial(n) of the memory 12 is in a null state, or performs step 207 in the case that it is not in the null state.
In the step 221, the controller 11 reads out the dial information stored in the dial buffer and registers the read-out dial information to the memory 12, and then performs step 222. In the step 222, the controller 11 sets a dial counter value DCNTtn] for the dial information to "200" and then performs step 223. At this time, the dial counter value DCNT(ni indicates the last dialling time. The closer the dial counter value DCNT[nl is to "200", the more recent is the related dial information. The dial counter value "200" can be increased or decreased according to the number of the registered dial information.
In the step 223, the controller 11 sorts the dial counter value in descending order and then stops. As described above, the dial counter value DCNT(n) for the dial information is sorted, for example, in descending order, but the dial counter value DCNT(n] can be sorted in ascending order.
The controller 11 performs step 207 in the case that the dial information is registered to the memory 12 in the step 206, to check whether or not the dial information stored in the dial buffer is equal to the dial information which has already been registered in the memory 12. At this time, if they are not equal to each other, the controller 11 performs step 231. In the step 231, the controller 11 decrements the dial counter value DCNT(n] for the dial information by 1 in the memory 12. And in step 232, the controller 11 checks whether or not the dial counter value DCNT(n) is zero. At this time, if the dial counter value DCNTEn) is zero, the controller 11 performs step 233.
Otherwise, the controller 11 performs step 234. In the step 233, the controller 11 deletes the dial information of which the dial counter value DCNTCn) is zero in the memory 12. And then in step 234, the controller 11 increases the index register value n of the dial information by 1 in the memory 12, and then performs step 206. In the step 207, the controller 11 performs step 208 in the case that the dial information stored in the dial buffer is equal to the dial information registered to the memory 12. In the step 208, the controller 11 updates the dial counter value DcNT(n) for the dial information registered to the memory 12, to "200".
In step 209, the controller 11 increases the index register value of the memory 12 by 1. In step 210, the controller 11 checks whether or not the dial information storing area Dial[n] of the memory 12 corresponding to the index register value n increased by 1 is in the null state. At this time, if it is in the null state, the controller 11 performs step 223. Otherwise, the controller 11 performs step 211. In the step 211, the controller 11 decrements the dial counter value DCNT(n) for the dial information by 1.
And in step 212, the controller 11 checks whether or not the dial counter value DCNTrnJ is zero. At this time, if the dial counter value DCNTEnJ is zero, the controller 11 performs step 213. In the step 213, the controller 11 deletes the dial information of which the dial counter value DCNT(n] of the memory 12 is zero.
In step 214, the controller 11 increments the index register value by 1 and performs the step 210. Then, the dial counter value DCNT(n) of the non-redialled dial information is decreased from 200 by 1 whenever dialling, thereby sorting the dial information in order of last dialling.
After the inputted dial information is registered, sorted and deleted as described in the above, an operation for searching and dialling a desired dial information will be described in detail with reference to Fig.4.
In step 401, the controller 11 receives a key signal through the key inputting part 100 and then performs step 402. In the step 402, the controller 11 checks whether or not a function key received through the key inputting part 10 is the search key, and if it is not the search key, the controller 11 performs an associated function in step 411 and then stops. If the search key is received, the controller 11 performs step 403 to sort the dial counter DCNT in descending order. In step 404, the controller 11 receives the key signal through the key inputting part 10 and then performs step 405. In the step 405, the controller 11 checks whether or not a key received in a digit unit through the key inputting part 10 is a numerical key, and if not a numerical key, the controller 11 performs step 406. Otherwise, the controller 11 performs step 421. At this time, the received numerical key is a keyword for searching.
In the step 421, the controller 11 sequentially stores the numeric in the dial buffer. In step 422, the controller 11 clears the index register value n to 0. In the step 406, the controller 11 checks whether or not the inputted function key is the search key, and if it is not the search key, the controller 11 performs step 407. Otherwise, the controller 11 performs step 431.
In the step 431, the controller 11 checks whether or not the part of information corresponding to the keyword stored in the dial buffer is equal to part of the dial information which has already been registered in the memory 12, and if they are not equal to each other, the controller 11 performs step 441 to increment the index register value by 1, and then repeatedly performs the step 431. At this time, the inputted keyword information is sequentially compared with the dial information registered in the memory 12. When the part of the dial information is identical to the inputted keyword information as a result of sequentially comparing the dial information with the keyword information, the controller 11 performs the step 432 to display the dial information having the part thereof through the displaying part 13, which is identical to the keyword information. In step 433, the index register value is incremented by 1.
Then the controller 11 again performs the step 404 and as a result repeatedly carries out the operation as described above, so that all dial information having the part thereof which is identical to the keyword information stored in the dial buffer are displayed through the displaying part 13 in the order of the last dialling. In the following, the search procedure is described as one example. If keys corresponding to "02" are pressed and then the search key is pressed, all dial information beginning with "02" are displayed in order of last dialling. If a key corresponding to "3 is further pressed and then the search key is again pressed, all dial information beginning with "023" are displayed in order of last dialling.
In the step 407, the controller 11 checks whether or not the inputted function key is a dialling key, and if it is not the dialling key, the controller 11 performs step 451.
Otherwise, the controller 11 performs step 408. In the step 451, the controller 11 checks whether or not the function key received through the key inputting part 10 is a cancel key. If the inputted function key is the cancel key, the keyword information stored in the dial buffer is cleared and then the program is terminated. Otherwise, the step 404 is repeatedly performed to repeatedly carry out the operation as described above. In the step 408, the controller 11 decreases the index register value by 1 and then performs step 409. Here, this is needed to dial the dial information corresponding to the index register value being now searched, because the index register value had been already increased by 1 in the step 433. In the step 409, the telephone number corresponding to the desired dial information now being searched is dialled and then the program is terminated.
As set forth above, the method according to the present invention automatically stores the dial information at the time of dialling in the communication terminal apparatus, thereby to prevent the user from complicatedly operating and repeatedly inputting the same keys. Also, the method according to the present invention inputs and searches the part of keyword only of desired dial information without searching all registered dial information at the time of searching, thereby promptly to search the desired dial information and thus shorten searching time.
Furthermore, the method according to the present invention stores only the dial information frequently utilized and deletes the dial information of which redialling has never been executed within a predetermined number of diallings, thereby to utilize effectively the memory for storing the dial information.
Still furthermore, the method according to the present invention searches only the part of the keyword information corresponding to the part of the desired dial information, thereby preventing all of the dial information registered in the memory from being searched out from the beginning.
The desired dial information can be obtained even though the user does not fully remember all of the desired dial information but the only part of the desired dial information.
While there have been illustrated and described what are considered to be preferred embodiments of the present invention, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made, and equivalents may be substituted for elements thereof without departing from the true scope of the present invention.
